Still, you have to give us the skinny the day after if you have the time... I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on this one.

If you had Setanta Sports, and watched a live boxing broadcast, it's pretty much exactly the same.

Steve Bunce in the UK studio with Enzo Maccarinelli. The old ITV commentary pairing of John Rawling and Duke Mackenzie appear to be in Finland covering the action.

BoxNation themselves are not filming the action. They've simply bought the international feed from Sauerland events. I believe for Cotto Vs. Margarito we'll be getting the Top Rank international feed and not the HBO broadcast. Cotto Vs. Margarito will probably have American commentary.

Whilst I was always a big fan of boxing on Setanta Sports, I would love BoxNation to try and find their own identity.

On a side note, the picture quality isn't exactly great. It's on par with ITV4. For £10.00 per month I'm expecting great picture quality. If you have a big TV, this channel might get a little bit too pixelated for your liking. I've noticed other people posting similar comments on other forums. Hopefully Virgin Media / BoxNation can review the problem and increase the bit-rate if possible. I'm paying a premium price, for a premium channel so give me premium picture quality.

All in, so far so good really.

I doubt it when there will be a HD version next year.

Thanks Chad,

I thought spur of the moment thing, just saw a excellent cup tie round the weekend with the Cotto fight:)

Still don't know why they quote possible activation might take 24 hours though! When CS could not guarantee being able to watch the fight live, he tried to upsell my broadband, I wonder how long that would take to activate:)

When I upgraded my TV from L to XL it took about 90 minutes to get my new channels. When I added SKY Sports it took about 30 minutes. When I took the VIP50 package, SKY Sports and SKY Movied HD arrived within 10 minutes!

The order has to be processed in Virgin Media Entertainment in Luxembourg. Usually it takes a lot less than 24 hours, but they are covering themselves.

Well just enjoyed a monster night of boxing. Going to my bed now. 1 thing has become very clear to me, the picture quality on BoxNation is terrible. Cotto Vs. Margarito was "blocky" throughout. This really needs to be sorted ASAP.

Yes, but there's a massive gap between where the facts end and your doubts begin.

Believe it or not I have a Freeview box bundled with a Setanta sub. I bought it cheap because Setanta was long dead by the time I got it. (See what I mean about not caring much for broadcast TV before TiVo?)

By the sounds of it we're getting British commentators then? Because to be honest, I've heard Americans calling boxing and wrestling and that constant loud/high-energy style really ticks me off.

I wouldn't say it's as bad as the ITV SD channels, probably closer to Dave: it isn't great but not terrible either. Should be better, and should come in both SD and HD versions I agree. If only SD, much higher bitrate.

I think it's a case of no news is good news. Other than dubious picture quality at times, I enjoyed a great night of boxing. 11 hours of action, 9 fights, plenty of Buncey plus family and friends round for beers. BoxNation delivered a proper night of boxing entertainment. I don't think any other British broadcaster has ever offered up such a long and varied card, and that's including nights when SKY have charged £14.99 for PPV broadcasts.

If BoxNation can deliver this type of event once or twice a month, it makes my £10.00 subscription look like a bargain.

As a boxing fan I had high expectations, and BoxNation delivered. I'd still like them to evolve away from the Setanta Sports feel but other than that, a great first effort as a pay TV channel.
