Not sure if XC trails is the way to go if your knees are suffering?

Wife and I just finished a 550km bike ride from Burgos to Santiago de Compostella in Spain (not in one day). The Spanish hills were interesting. Not the crazy gradients you get in the UK, but they go on forever. Was very pleased with my 22tooth granny. Managed to get to the top of most of them with depleted thighs, but without being out of breath. Good workout all-round.

Nothing too technical as we're riding hardtails (no excuse some would say but I am not that good a rider). We've done the red and black runs at Llandegla which aren't that taxing on the limbs and there are plenty of other trails along those lines around these parts. Congrats on the big ride, beats bumming around on the beach :)

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

I'm close to 46, and was kinda shocked when I weighed in at 14 stone 4, I'm 5 10 tall and was a slight build, used to just eating like a gannet and never putting on any weight, (I used to be around the 10 stone mark forever)

Still got skinny arms/legs but a umm 'rounder' body so I've started on a diet/exercise session. Apparently I'm supposed to be around 12.5 stone or so, but I'm going to aim for 13 stone and then 'review' I understand as a 46 yr old that I'm not gong to expect a body like a 25 yr old.

Week 1, I lost 6 pounds, so am now at 13 stone 12, which isn't bad for a start, i'll see again next Tuesday what Week 2 results are.

Exercise wise, I'm walking, and we just got a exercise bike/sit-up bench and some dumbbells, which I think will work ok (being ripped/muscly doesn't interest me, but being 'not porky' does)

Food intake, I'm being really careful about fat/diary products, eating a lot of stuff like eggs/porridge/chicken/fish

Stuff which was an eye opener was Bread, i'm eating raisons/fruit more instead of sweet stuff/cakes

I guesstimate I'm doing between 1,000- 1,500 calories/day (ish)

I'll let you guys know how it goes, hopefully I'll hit 13 stone within a month or so.

Oh yes, to add, I quit smoking in 2002 and I don't drink either.

The first scales, I tried(in the shops) were out and I thought I was 14 stone 14, so just shy of 15 stone, but when I got my own scales and weighed myself sans clothes/pocket clutter I was only 14 stone 4 phewww, (I notice clothes and stuff can add up to 6 pounds!

dead is the condition I'll be in when I reach 10 stone.;)

I was very skinny as a youth. I never broke through 10 stone until I was in my early 30s, after a trip to the states off course :-). I peaked at 13.5 stone last year and probably just over 12 now.

I'm quite happy with my weight, I'd just like to redistribute it somewhat. :D

Don't fixate too much on what the scales say. I think how you feel is more important. If you are tracking your weight try to stick to the same time once a week.

Well done techguy keep up the good work!

I'm on week 2 with this
machine, lost between 5-6lbs last week and I'm really pleased with the results.:):):) Don't know if it's psychological but I do feel more toned up already. It's early days but I am hoping to lose another 7lbs in the next 2 weeks. Total lost so far (including pre machine) since 27th July 19-20lbs.

Come on girls how are you all doing?

Ah looks interesting, presumably a 21st Century update of ye olde vibrating belt machine

Now my tummy isn't getting in the way so much, I do need to start using the sit up bench.

(all my excess weight is abdominal)

I'm hoping that 4 weeks total of the regime will get me to 'weight review' time.

*almost* one stone, bit disappointed to be honest, I thought that I'd have made a good 4 pounds

Oh well, it's still going downwards though, I'll try harder for week 4

Remember with weight loss the first 2 weeks are when you lose the most weight and after that its generally 1 to 3 pounds per week so you should not be disappointed at all as its still going downwards and just continue what you are doing and you will get down to a weight you are happy with.
