Really liking the look of this air display application. I'm currently in the process of composing the computerised bit of our live rig in mainstage 2 (to replace my precarious box of outboard rack gear) so being able to drag the perform window with all of the transport controls, trigger pads etc onto an ipad would be fantastic. I've heard of people using VNC wirelessly to do a similar thing but there are too many display related compromises.

If anyone here owns an iPhone 4S try this,

Say to Siri "Sing a song to me" and see what it does, I believe it will sing Daisy, as in the film 2001 by HAL

BBC iPlayer v2.0 is now in the app store, and it now includes the ability to download content for offline viewing.

It can't download in the background though. I assume this is a limitation of ios rather than the app.

I know, but on 60Mb (even over wifi), most programmes only take a minute or two...:D

I don't own any Apple gadgets, and you might already have this app, since it was released in November of last year, but thought I'd pass the app on anyway. It's also available as an extension for Chrome. It'll be available for Android very soon too (so they say).

It's called YouZeek, here's the link

Nice if you can get it, but here in rural nowhereshire our download rarely tops 2Mb. ;)

Version 4.1 of the Sky+ iPad app is now available to download from the App Store! :)

Other than (so far) fixing the iOS6 freezing, it adds two new things:

1) Suggestions for when programmes you want to record clash with each other. You can also set the number of feeds your box has, as that would obviously affect clashing.

2) "Discover More". This is the zeebox integration mentioned some time ago. If you bring up a programme in the guide, you can select "Discover More" to bring up more info on it, with options to find out more about the cast members and visit related links. It also has Twitter integration if you'd like to post about something from within the app.

1 Attachment(s)
I've been testing AC7 Core which is a wireless midi control surface for Logic and other DAW applications. Very slick app indeed once you have it set up, sends the channel names, VU meter levels and automation just as if it were a Mackie Control. Not bad at all for a fiver and the latency is negligible if your wireless network is good... well impressed.

Attachment 23860

So ... iPad Mini (not a surprise), but a 4th generation regular iPad just six months after the last one. Anyone with an iPad 3 feeling sore at no longer having the latest model? :D

iPad Mini:

http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/23/3...e-announcement

http://www.apple.com/uk/ipad-mini/overview/

7.9", 1024x768, Apple A5 SoC, Lightning connector, LTE for the "cellular" model... Ships 2nd November. 16GB / 32GB / 64GB WiFi only models are £269 / £349 / £429, add £100 for WiFi + Cellular.

4th generation iPad:

http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/23/3...-lightning-a6x

http://www.apple.com/uk/ipad/overview/

Like the 3rd generation iPad (which was only released in MARCH!), but with an Apple A6X SoC instead of the A5X, Lightning connector, expanded LTE support for the "cellular" model so it will work with EE's 4G LTE in the UK. Ships 2nd November, same price points as the "New" (now old and discontinued) iPad - 16GB / 32GB / 64GB WiFi only models are £399 / £479 / £559, add £100 for WiFi + Cellular.

[Also announced in the same event, but nothing to do with iPads:

A new iMac design. Thinner (no optical drive), new display, Ivy Bridge & USB3, NVIDIA GPU instead of Radeon, 8GB RAM to start instead of 4GB, option for a "Fusion" hybrid SSD/HDD.

A new Mac Mini.

A 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display.]

Why spend money on the 4th generation iPad - the 5th one will be here soon...

Personally, I buy tech when I believe it will help me perform some necessary task or make my life easier in some way. The fact that today's latest model is tomorrow's eBay stock clearance is neither here nor there. If I happened to be looking for a replacement for my iPad1 in the next 6 months, I'd buy an iPad4 without hesitation.

As it happens, the iPad1 is still going strong and doing everything I need it to*, so I'm not upgrading for the forseeable. Mrs T. is drooling all over the iPad mini though, as she would really quite like an ebook reader but we can't quite bring ourselves to go down the Kindle route seeing as everything else in the house is Apple and all slots together rather nicely.

*And something the current iPad does not do, namely offer a built-in mapping application that's fit for purpose. The iPad1 will not update its OS beyond version 5 and is therefore 'stuck' with Google Maps.
