Scott Pilgrim vs. the World 9/10
Really funny, one of those films we're looking forward to seeing again, to catch the bits we missed as were laughing at previous line :) Cool mix of Kill Bill, Kick Ass and Spaced! Haven't read the books, but will add them to the ever expanding Amazon wishlist. |
re: Rate the last movie you saw
Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - 4/10.
Mildly amusing, rather than funny - probably wouldn't even have been that if not for the 3/4 bottle of Pinot Noir. |
re: Rate the last movie you saw
This is England 9/10
The only Shane Meadows film the missus and I had seen was Dead Man's Shoes which we thought was excellent. So when we saw adverts for This is England '86 we were hoping Ch4 would show This is England as I've recorded some of his other films which hav ebeen on Ch4, Film 4 and BBC but never got round to watching them. So tonight we watched This is England to see if the tv sequel will be worth watching, if it's half as good as the film, it certainly will be. Like Dead Man's Shoes, This is England has scenes which are brilliantly funny, followed by scenes full of suspense, which sometimes end up in something horrible, and sometimes a huge sigh of relief :) Brilliant edge of the seat stuff, looking forward to the tv series. The other thing is, it's interesting how a film made a few years ago, about a group of ppl in the 80s, is completely relevant today |

9/10 So good I went to see it twice, only gets a 9/10 because they under used both the Ramona & Wallace Wells characters. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Scot Pilgrim Vs The World - 9/10, absolutely loved it, can see it becoming a bit of a cult classic though as its not doing very well in the states, seems to be a bit of a Marmite movie.

Finally got to see Scott Pilgrim Vs the World
Loved it 9/10 :D Mark Millar said he had high hopes for it in a recent R5 live interview but it didn't do as well as expected in the US, they do think it will be huge on DVD/Blu though. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Busy weekend for movies. Saw 2...
1) Back To The Future (new digital presentation). Excellent film, excellent image and sound. 8/10 2) Buried. An unusual concept for a film (Ryan Reynolds plays a truck driver who wakes up in a coffin after being kidnapped and buried with a couple of chemical glow sticks, a torch, some water and a mobile phone and the who film is about his attempts to get rescued), but excellently realised and really quite tense. 9/10 |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
I was quite interested in seeing "Buried"... until I read that Ryan Reynolds was in it.

Paranormal Activity 2 - :Yikes:  :disturbd: :eeek:
Very good, not one to watch if you are in the house alone at night and your house makes strange noises. |

Very scary. I think it's helped by some very believable characters, some good actors playing those characters and very good use of special effects (especially sound, as a lot of the stuff happens off screen). |

Paranormal Activity 2 aswell, goosebumps from start to finish, i couldn't watch some parts

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Saw 3D 5/10
I'll start off by saying missus and I love Saw and Saw II, and really like Saw 3-6. 3-6 we saw at the cinema and rewatch all the previous films to remind ouselves of what's what. Saw 3D however is crap :( The traps really are the stars, as the director made a good job of them, adequate use of 3d, but can't direct ppl for toffee :( The main detective is aweful. Some of the traps really are very "cool", and inventive. there are 2 redeeming bits. Spoiler:
As a whole the 3d was wasted, blood flies out the screen a few times, nothing amazing. Saw 6 was originally going to be 3d but I think in the documentary on the DVD they thought the tech wasn't ready yet. The Jackass 3D trailer in 3d was the highlight of the film, closely followed by Machete trailer. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Saw 3D
2/10 Was boring from start to finish and the twist at the end was pretty crap. I do however like the bit with the bear trap |

It is a remake of "Let the right one in" which is a Swedish movie but worth watching if you have not seen the original. |

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Two films recently..
Skyline: 4/10. Excellent special effects. That's the good part, and something you'd expect considering the film was made by a company who did the special effects for 2012, Iron Man 2 and The A Team. Trouble is, the characters have no depth. In a disaster movie (which this essentially is), you don't need a great deal of character depth, but they do need to have some trait you can at least vaguely identify with. At least I do. I have to have something about the characters I like, or really hate. This film offered nothing. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt.1 6/10 Not a bad film by any means, it's just it follows the first half of the book a little too closely, as a result, it's very slow in places, and, for some reason, Emma Watson in particular spends a lot of the film showing fear, anger or sadness. I say for some reason because she actually seems to get more screen time than Daniel Radcliffe. Still, it is actually a good film, just a little slow as it is setting up a lot of things to happen in the final film. ---------- Post added at 22:39 ---------- Previous post was at 22:35 ---------- Quote:
I thought I read somewhere that the reason they went for the 3d in the final saw is that the franchise lost a lot of money they wanted to recoup. |

Logans Run 6/10 a daft old movie from the 1970's but fun to watch and remember how amazing Jenny Agutter was in her younger days, still nice now.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Demolition Man
I've never understood why this had such awful reviews. Awesome fun. It's my favourite Stallone movie, and my second-favourite Snipes movie after Blade. 8/10 |

Jackass 3D - 9/10
the missus and I rewatched the first 2 films recently to make sure we still liked this sort of humour and enjoyed them (I'd give them 8/10 each) we didn't stop laughing during the new one, and as daft as this may seem, most probably the best use of 3d we've seen at the cinema, stuff whizzing around in all directions! |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The Other Guys with will farrel and mark walberg. This was laugh out loud funny and cracked me up throughout. 8 out of 10.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Really good fun action movie. Plot is totally all over the place and believability was lost in the first scene but that's what makes a great action movie doesn't it! |

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I - 8/10
As others have said, it's slow but I enjoyed it. We watched all the others before hand, and they're better than I remember, but that may be because I read the books so long ago now, i can't remember the differences :) The next one should be very good. edit: Really enjoyed the Deathly Hallows story in it, thought that was very well done. |

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Tomorrow Never Dies
The second - and 2nd best - Brosnan Bond after GoldenEye. Great action & gadgets, classic Bond cheese, and a modern (for the late 90s) take on Ye Olde Bond Villain, who was doing an updated variation of the You Only Live Twice / The Spy Who Loved Me evil plan. |

Airplane! (DVD)
In honour of the late, great, Leslie Nielsen :( I won't even bother quoting it, the whole movie is one giant quote, & I'm sure most people know most of them! Great stuff :D |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
I've never seen that film... Oh well. I may try and get it cos people have told me about it before.

How old are you?!?! Oh, right... ;) |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Well I've seen several films from like the 40s and stuff so you know. Oh and if you look on BXB no one made a birthday post. Prats. Anyways, I'll get that later and watch it in uni.
|
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Compared to modern comedies, it'll seem rather stupid. There's just something about it, though...
It's also helped by the deadpan delivery, especially of Nielsen. Was your birthday not in your BXB profile? I always forget about birthday threads there, 'cos ones here are automatic. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Aye it is.
Also I like the older comedies, we watch some in uni all the time. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Seen the "Naked Gun" movies? They're by the same people that did "Airplane!", and were based on the excellent (yet short lived!) TV series called "Police Squad". Check 'em all out.
