I just don’t think VM will stop @ 30 HD channels - I would prefer VM to get rid of rubbish TV channels and these +1 + 2 channels.

We have a huge on demand and catch up TV we don’t really need +1/Delayed TV.

I would rather have fewer TV channels but with a better line up.

How many people watch ITV4 +1 Watch + 1 etc - I would rather have Animal Plant HD and History HD added.

Its my personnel opinion but I feel +1 is dead and with both VM/Sky providing more on demand, catch up TV and these IPlayers we just don’t need them.

Maybe get some US exports

I often use the +1 channels. If there's 3 things I want to record on at the same time, I can record one of them off the +1 channel where available.

I do. I find the +1s useful. Why should it be one over the other? VM have the capacity now to put what they want on, that doesn't meaning gaining HD channels at the expense of other channels.

What is irritating is the lack of being able to organise the channels how you want, something that was removed upon the telewest/ntl merger.

If you only want to watch HD channels, you should be able to position them all together or put whatever channel in whatever position you want. In that sense, I agree with you that the +1s get in the way.

Personally, I use the favourites facility purely to store all the HD channels, that way you can keep them altogether and access them relatively easily.

It's interesting how even supposedly big subscription channels like Sky1 have microscopic viewer numbers compared to the BBC channels. Considering how many of those ugly looking sky satellite dishes litter the country, that's kind of surprising to me.

That's what I do, but as Virgin add more channels the HD list is spilling over on to 3 pages, and includes all sorts of junk now which I have no interest in.

Of course if the V+ actually displayed a TV guide in 1080p which filled the entire screen, with user selectable font size, it could be vastly more useful than it is now.

i'd like to be able to delete SD multicast channels like ITV1, CHANNEL4, ESPN etc for channels on XL. I've got hd so no point displaying those!

Lock them, it doesn't come up then or when you're flicking thru :tu:

Its a cyclone. Beware of the remote though. The one i have is a small one but there is a later version (comes with the same model recorder) which is bigger and i think is better.
The small one seems a bit crap but it doesnt bother me because i use the buttons on the recorder and/or the laptop.

You can use component cables which don't use HDCP. The Samsung boxes can use the component cables for the PS3 (HDMI to Component). One of those, a Hauppauge HD PVR and Media Center apnd you have yourself a nice archiving method albeit slightly expensive and long winded.

They are for testing the network, and don't relate to any real channels. They will be removed when the tests are complete.

3 out of 5 test channels i know are Sky One HD, Sky Arts HD 1 and Sky Arts 2. because mediaboy said that they appearing at the end of this month.

test channels dnt mean there channel launching, generally if you ha vea test channel with a certain cahnenl broadcasting it a good chance it will eb coming but nto alway, and secondly they use hte test channels to see how it affect other channesl so they know if they need to add more bandwidht to carry mroe channels

i would have thought there would be a virgin 1hd by now its funny really as in my oppinion virgin 1 has the worst picture of any station would have thought they give there flag ship channel more bandwidth

The test channels are on frequencies that haven't been used for digital TV before - previously they either carried analogue TV or weren't used at all. So we are checking the signal quality throughout the network is good enough for digital, and fixing problems where necessary. Once the tests are complete we'll be confident that channels can be launched on those frequencies without getting freezing pictures or pixellation.

I agree V1 is not great but CBeebies (702) is truly awful. Even static shots seem to be made up of mosiac tiles. Shame then that it's the most watched channel in this house! :erm:

Yup.. now owned by Sky. The deal didn't include Sky using the Virgin brand name so Virgin one will shortly become Channel 1.

No idea if this was posted earlier, however Digital Spy there is a mention of Discovery getting 3D licence.

Do you think Virgin will stick with the on-demand 3D, or actually broadcast this as a channel if accepted?

I think they have been looking to off load that for quite some time, this one is a bit trickery as the BBC have a veto they can evoke on the new buyer if they don't want to get in bed with them.

From VM point of view this is a no brainer, sell up and get a huge wad of cash and as the BBC is a 50% owner there is unlikely to be a issue with carriage.

all this selling off of assets to pay debts makes you wonder how VM keeps going and how long it will be around for in its current form.

im just saying from a potential investor or customer point of view it looks pretty bad that VM keep selling off assets to keep debts down. it makes the company look like a sinking ship. one sale to Sky a few weeks ago and now the sale of the UKTV assests it looks bad form the point of view of looking to become a customer or invest.

It only looks bad if you want to look at it that way, as they are repositioning themselves as a delivery network rather then one that creates content then it makes sense to get rid of assets that you no longer require. Selling UKTV is a no brainer they will always be able to carry the channels.

the thing is Sky have shown how having to content and the platform is the business model to have. With just the platform it leaves VM in a weaker situation when negotiating with Sky

That ship has sailed! VM won't have any say in refusing to let Sky carry the UKTV portfolio as they don't own it outright so why not sell and grab the cash!
