REALLY hope virgin can add both of the eurosport channels soon, i like to watch tennis and swimming on eurosport, it would be great in HD.

There is a British Eurosport and also a Eurosport International, that is why they are named as they are. Sometimes when you are watching it the commentators will say welcome to viewers from "International \ British Euosport" depending on the schedule. Not sure about Eurosport 2 if that has a British and International version

The way it's being talked about as if it's a done deal with VM.

Media Boy had to take off his page 1 listing that Eurosport HD was a signed deal!

It isn't!!!!

We have no idea if Eurosport HD is coming to VM letalone HD 2

HD2 isn't because it isn't coming to this country.

I'd much, much rather sky sports interactive than sky sports HD.

I guess neither will come though.

The ofcom review is looking at both of them, as it sees withholding any content from the channel, be that HD or interactive streams, a form of non-price discrimination, so if one comes the other will.

can you quote or link to the presentation if there is one yet? i wouldnt mind reading, if it 20-30 hd channels by early 2010 then that suggest there about 10-15 new hd channesl about to launch which would concide with sky saying they will have about 50 by then

if that does happen the new goverment would nto be able to stop it :D

It doesn't, this information was gleamed from the Q and A towards the end of the conference call. Investor asked if and when Virgin would catch up with SKY and there response was that. As stated before, i forgot to record this part and it is not available at the moanywhere. I am sure a transcript will become available

I have a plasma by the way, colour balance, richness, reality of image, second to none.

Quite. It's a shame LCDs are dominant as plasma looks so much nicer. LCDs have an artificial, overly contrasty, digital look which makes even high end HD content look unrealistic. A good plasma will win out any day.

thats probably why its free on virgin in august otherwise tons of ppl would phone virgin up for a refund as ESPN HD isn't HD.

Atleast it makes SD watchable, they only have 1 week till 15th when premiership starts, wonder if they will have hd ready by that time, i'm not convinced.

I have to say I turned onto the German game on the Hd channel and didn't think much of the picture. it looked just as bad as Setanta used to and the pitch wasn't very clear. Not sure if this was true HD though

Thats not the reason its free this month, as the SD ESPN is also free to all customers.

I did watch baseball the other night and it wasn't HD.

But then most of the stuff on CH4 HD is not HD either. The logo appears to let you know when its HD and I have only seen it a few times.

Im not so sure. I was reading yesterday that the racing fraternity is fighting amongst themselves over plans to make racing more appealing.
Seems that bookies and race courses are losing customers to football betting and online betting and the uk industry is in danger of becoming a 3rd world racing country.
Maybe virgin has researched this and found the amount of people watching have fallen as well so not worth paying the cost of racing.

So you're agreeing with me then? To make racing more appealing they need to improve the sport. For example, remove the horses, courses and give the jockeys a ball and two nets. That way they can have two teams of 11 each aiming to get the ball into the opponents net.

So who thinks Living HD will launch this month? Just reading the stuff from the investors report last week I kind of got the feeling that the rush to launch the HD channels last month was to make good on what was said last year to investors. Now that they have another 12 months things may slow down?

If it was to launch this month surely there would be loads more info available?

That was not what I meant, C4 was already a channel broadcasting on other platforms. Stuff like marketing, and program acquisition. Maybe I am just a pessimist but it seems to quite for a high profile launch that is only weeks away.

lol
Its the racing industries job to make thier sport more attractive not virgins. (if virgin knew there was as big an audience as football then im sure they would have kept it free or less expensive.)
If the racing industry want virgins help then they should pay thier way.
If someone is a big fan of racing then thier contributions to should reflect that.
If i want to watch a minority sport that i enjoyed then its fair i should pay for that in the same way movie fans who want sky movies pay for it in thier own package selection.
Personally im not a big football or racing fan so im making an observation about why virgin has chosen to make a charge for racing.

Well look at CH4 HD VM said coming soon on the Thursday and then launched it on the Friday without a big build up. Same will maybe happen with Living HD.

would be great if either ITV, 5, Eurosport, Bravo or ESPN took up the rights - as I would get it for free.

Don;t subscribe to Sky Sports - so not wanting it to go there. Think they would only show the odd high profile game and play-offs only - poss internet highlights). if they did get, would I subscribe - difficult. Knowing them, they would put it on the Red Button :mad::mad:

By the way - not mentioned it before, but thanks Virgin for my HD channels & ESPN. Now if only they could get caller id working on my telephone (please note, not an invite to add to this thread about caller id!!

The newly launched Asian package on Sky View Asia has infomed Biz Asia in an interview that they are negotiating with other platforms to launch their package.

Some of the channels are already on Virgin and if Virgin give the go ahead we could see three new channels added.

The current offering of the View Asia package includes the following channels:

MAX
Sony TV
B4U Movies
ARY Digital
Sahara One
Aaj Tak

MAX
Sony TV
B4U Movies
ARY Digital
Sahara One
Aaj Tak

I'm sure that Media Boy posted recently that VM were considering dropping their current charges for the Asian channels, and putting them on the TV-XL package for free.

UPDATE....

It appears that the above is an error, I just found this denying the claim.

so no concrete evidence but it shows that the bbc are involved again so is it going to be another match of the day ?

The BBC mention is just for the Championship, League One and League Two. The Football League Show is on after Match of the Day.

First show was OK and there are good highlights on the BBC Sport website. A lot better than what Virgin had last season.

Info from Wikipedia.

Update: From Ex-ntl areas

Virgin have renamed VMTest6 as Living HD however it is not currently testing and showing the test card of ESPN channels coming soon.

They have also given it an epg number of 110 but I think this may change when they launch the channel or they may keep it and renumber the SD versions of the Living channel.

Media Boy Thinks: I think Living/Living2 will look like this when Living HD launches.

A)
110. Living
111. Living +1
112. Living 2
159. Living HD
160. Living 2 +1

OR B)
110. Living HD
111. Living
112. Living +1
159. Living2
160. Living2 +1

Horizon 11-08-2009 16:08

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

....I think option B is probably closer to the mark. So that's another one, the last for now, on the way. Good stuff. A bit like buses, these HD channels all come at once!

EBD3000 11-08-2009 16:27

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

Option B makes much more sense the +1 and the HD version next to the original channel.

I'm assuming above that Living HD is going to be simucast of Living.

zantarous 11-08-2009 18:04

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

I would agree B would be the best solution, what are the changes of a EPG reshuffle to put all the Living channels together and a spare one for Living 3?

I've heard people mention Living 3 a few times lately. Is it confirmed, or just rumoured?

I think Living3 is just an rumour as I was told months ago that Virgin are going to rebrand Living2 sometime before 2010.

I don't see a lot of point with Virgin launching Living 3. They don't have that much to show as it is, and they already have two channels.

Thats what i thought as well, I read about Living 3 on DS but couldn't figure out the logic behind it after closing Trouble.

What i dont understand is i am looking forward to living hd but why all the effort if the channels are up for sale anyway. If sky get them they will rip them to bits anyway.

....they've been selling the channels for 3 years now. Believe it when it happens! Until then, it's business as usual.

zantarous 11-08-2009 21:13

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

A) It may be easy to set up a HD channel for them as they probably buy HD versions when they get shows (speculation on my part) and that when they upgraded their playout facility so they could broadcast in WS it was made HD ready. This would help make the bouquet of channels more attractive.

B) They simply want to see how much the channels are worth especially when Sky under valued them when negotiating for the Sky basics.

I know, I said I was trying to subscribe. It works out at just 60p for six magazines, far cheaper than buying the one magazine in the shops.

Back to it old Telewest Channel number.

But that will mean Virgin has no room to put BBC ALBA (When it launches) beside all the other BBC Channels.

I think this channel will soon die on Sky. (Sorry has to say it)

DS Forum says it has been broadcasting the same things since it launch. And has also been rebrand as The Unexplained Channel.

Sony are in talks with Virgin about carrying more Asian TV channels on their platform to build the View Asia package but it depends on space available on Virgin.

Probably Living HD will be on 111 and don't expect Living 2 et all to be around for much longer. They're to get the same treatment as the UKTV channels.

I reckon the EPG numbering will look something like this within the next 6 months:

109: Living
110: Living +1
111: Living HD
112: Another VMTV channel
113: Another VMTV channel +1
114: ITV 2
115: ITV 2 +1
116: ITV 3
117: ITV 3 +1
118: ITV 4
119: ITV 4 +1
120: ITV HD
121: Sky 1 etc

Virgin Central to be scrapped.

Or something like that!
