Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Jo I assume the medication will help the pain, the medication he is on atm is
Omeprazole 20mg, one capsule to be given daily 2 hours before food. Prednisolone 5mg SA, two tablets once daily with food, stop if sickness occurs. Prednidale 25mg, one tablet daily with food, stop if sickness occurs. He is now off his Metacam. Today he enjoyed his back garden without being rushed to come in as I'm guilty off doing this, I just stood at the french doors watching him. Today he has had two slices of hot buttered toast since he turned his nose up at his Iams Proactive Health Mature & Senior Dog Chicken food, then he had some gravy bones and now he is currently sleeping in the living room with my bed throw over him looking very snug may I add and I'm going to make him some chicken and rice later on as I know he loves this treat. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Hi weenie, the Omeprazole is usually taken to stop any indigestion type symptoms and to avoid any problems when he has eaten. It can also help if there is any suspicion of ulcers.
The Prednisolone and Prednidale are both Steroids which reduce inflammation and can slow down or even shrink tumours. They also have a pain relief effect on arthritis which is why I assume your Vet has stopped the Metacam. When my terminally ill foster cats have had to have a similar drug program I try to stick to as light a diet as possible, the chicken and rice was my go-to menu, for at least the first few days/week when stomach (the runs ughhhh) upsets and vomiting can sometimes happened when large doses of steroids are given and this is why the Vet has told you to stop the tablets if sickness occurs. Oh and try not to handle either of the Pred tablets if you do have to touch them wash your hands really really well after you have given him the tablets. I was on high dosage preds for a long time and never felt my arthritis or had any digestive problems so despite the long term side effects I suffered they were very effective and I hope my canine counterpart will also be able to cope with them because they do work well. If you want to look up any medicines have a look at this site, http://www.vmd.defra.gov.uk/productI...e/Default.aspx You can either search alphabetically or just use the search option choosing DOG, When the drug comes up click on "view SPC" the resulting doc is normally very informative. Though I have just checked and Omeprazole isn't listed so the lists can have drugs missing. |

I'm an idiot!
While sorting the grass out along the edge of the house wall i managed to cut through the VM phone line wire using the shears! Does anyone know if i will have to pay to get this fixed or is it something they will do for free? I am assuming it will cost me maybe £50. |

If it's the siamese cable (co-ax + twisted pairs) then VM will have to be got in. |

---------- Post added at 21:26 ---------- Previous post was at 19:58 ---------- Idiot postmen AGAIN! We just had an automated reminder about a hospital appointment for my son which was apparently for tomorrow morning. We knew nothing about it so clearly the letter never arrived and was lost/misdelivered en route. Thankfully it's not urgent and because we got the reminder we've at least been able to cancel it at the last minute but I doubt whether anyone else will be able to take the appointment at this late stage. I'll call the hospital tomorrow morning and explain but whether they will believe me is another matter. I hope they do because in nearly 20 years we've only ever missed 1 hospital appointment and we felt awful about that for ages. :( |
