On the morning of Wednesday the 7th of June between midnight and 6 AM,

On the morning of Thursday the 8th of June between midnight and 6 AM,

even though it says 'network upgrade' dont assume it necessarily means the 4 meg speed upgrade is going through on those days.

I'm thinking at least a week before people start to drift through with upgrades... and then there's gonna be the whole "I've been upped to 4meg and it's worse than 2meg" debate! ;)

Ah well another day waiting....
Fri, 02 Jun 2006 08:20:03 GMT

1st 512K took 2203 ms = 232.4 KB/sec, approx 1915 Kbps, 1.87 Mbps
2nd 512K took 2187 ms = 234.1 KB/sec, approx 1929 Kbps, 1.88 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2172 ms = 235.7 KB/sec, approx 1942 Kbps, 1.9 Mbps
4th 512K took 2172 ms = 235.7 KB/sec, approx 1942 Kbps, 1.9 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1932 Kbps, 1.89 Mbps.

Hey still fast enough for playing counterstrike on net though and will upload speed help gameplay or what? Not quite sure how speed will effect me really. only download demos and movie previews and that seems quite fast anyway. Scared to look for songs on p2p now cos of being watched:disturbd:. Can't believe i just said movies there i sound like a yank now damn (or should that be darn)this internet lol. Come on NTL boost me baby.

Re: New Speeds - June 1st

The connection went wonky here in Nottingham at around midnight and I was convinced 'this is it'. When it eventually came back about 30 minutes later, quick reboot. Terrible, terrible speeds for 2MB around the 1MB mark :(

Tested this morning - 1.9MB download speed. Ah well...

That doesn't really work as many areas get this done without getting speed upgrades every week. This is just standard network maintenance and upgrade I'm afraid.

Although if you're lucky they'll be doing the switchovers, however just because network optimisation / upgrades are being done it certainly doesn't mean that it's the tier uplift coming :)

Nah upload increase won't improve gameplay at all dude, only means you can host more people on a server without lag.

Same here, NG17 area, except I've never had my connection go wonky after midnight for as long as I can remember. Must have been some routine maintenance affecting speeds.

Saw this quote on another board:

Quote:

i telephones ntl CS today to enquire about the speed increases for 2mb subscribers and was informed as long standing customer of telephone ,cable TV and broadband from NTL i wont be eligible for the speed upgrades to 4 meg as i have a STB
This can't be true can it? No upgrades for STB users?
