Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

They have smart meter targets to meet, and get fined if they dont.
It seems unfair TBH, they cant control peoples desire to have them, or otherwise.

Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

Ovo want me to have a smart gas meter but the electricity one was as effective as a chocolate teapot. No signal and the IHD failed completely.

No thanks.

Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

AFAIK, smart gas meters just talk to the associated electric meter, they dont connect to the smart network directly.

Check if agile is any good for you.

I use that site all the time, you can also use the app Octopus Compare. Based on my current usage Tracker is better for me at £481 Vs £489.

Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

Yes, I've been monitoring that since I moved, atm, it thinks I would be better off on agile.

Obviously between 4pm and 7pm, tracker is always better, but most of the rest of the day it indicates I'm generally better with agile.

I'm not going to move based on 5 days, but if this pattern continues, I may switch.

Free Electricity between 1pm and 2pm tomorrow for Smart Meter Octopus customers, if anyone wants to sign up.

Did it as soon as I had the mail. Time to top up the charge on my car. :D

Yeah .... "Free" with a catch. ;)

I signed up, but I'm not sure I'll benefit much as you have to use more than 'normal', thats the only bit thats free.

Well topping up to 100% on my car will take me over the norm :)

Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

A week of full readings and the comparison sites and apps are all pretty clear.
Agile would be the cheaper choice for me, so I have taken the "plunge" and requested a switch.

Are you going to leave your Gas on the Tracker seeing you can't do that on Agile?

Gas stays on whatever it was, so yes, it will remain on Tracker.

Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

Yes if you consistently use most of your electricity outside of 4pm to 7pm it will certainly be cheaper on agile. If you can coordinate your washing to the cheapest times you can save even more.
