As far as top gear goes my feelings are they will run it for a season. At first it will get high viewing numbers whilst people check it out. Then the decline in to nothingness will start because they cannot make it work.

Cannot wait to see who has signed Clarkson Hammond and May for the real fun car show ;)

I think in the last episode they should just have revealed who the stig actually was.

Top Gear had become stale. Yes it was still attracting big audiences for BBC2. Yes it had become a worldwide cash cow.

This final episode showed how the presenters and producers were struggling to come up with any fresh ideas and ultimately were a parody of themselves. For me Top Gear had stopped being must see TV. It was recorded on the TiVo and inevitably much of it was watched fast forward.

BBC now have an opportunity to refresh Top Gear.

Clarkson, Hammond and May, along with the defecting production team have the opportunity to re-invent themselves and tout their new production to alternative TV companies.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how well (or badly) the new version will fare against the old crew doing their thing.

There are some certainties:

1. Everyone, despite what they say, will tune in to see the new format;

2. Before the intro finishes, there will be much grinding of teeth and much further lament about Jezzexit;

3. The new show will feature cars more than the old show featured has-been personalities. :D

I just watched the last episode (downloaded from iPlayer to watch on the plane).

It was fun, but my life won't end if Jezza et al don't make any more..

Only the first episode to see Chris Evans make a tit of himself

I will make you a wager.

If by the end of season one they are hitting or exceeding the average viewer figures for the old series i will pay £10.00 to charity. Do you want to match me if they are not hitting those figures. ?

A tenner? On a Top Gear bet? I wouldn't bet a penny on anything on the telly. But I like your style and will make a donation to my favourite children's charity to respect your challenge regardless of viewing figures.

I'll even make sure to give a tenner more than usual - it's a charity very close to my heart.
