Oh you've missed the fun :D we've had more news about a certain channel coming, we had Dave say "it's never going to happen" Dave is right because 3 different sources have confirmed to me it isn't coming anytime soon. We now refer SA to the channel that shall not be named. There's a new prototype TiVo box in testing.
NatgeowildHD, HistoryHD, DisneyHD, DisneyXDHD are rumoured to launch within the first quarter of 2014.
Some more channels will change packs within the second quarter of 2014.
Now if only there was a thread where you could read about all of this. :p: just teasing you about the thread bit mate but what i just mentioned is basically all the news for now.

That wouldn't make any sense at all, it would just mean additional playout facilities would be required but not fully utilised. Where have you seen that 5 USA +1 will be dropped on Sky? I've not seen that in any of the reports. Channel 5 +24 is reported to be taking the EPG position currently occupied by 5 USA +1 on Sky but that may simply indicate that 5 USA +1 will be demoted further down the Sky EPG, as 5* +1 was when Channel 5 +1 began broadcasting.

That's certainly a possibility, but I doubt it as it would mean cash strapped C5 having to buy another SD slot on Sky.

Playout facilities shouldn't be a problem. This grand term was used in the past for playout suites, but these days TV technologists say they are little more than a few computers in an office!

It's not just the playout suite but the distribution system too.

I'm not so sure about them being "cash strapped". The business has been turned around from a £48m loss making operation at the time of the last sale, with a far more healthy £20m profit for the 6 months to August 2013.

True, Desmond has turned it around and is now looking to sell.

They still don't seem to want to spend any more than they absolutely have to though eg no C5 HD on Freeview, putting Channel 5 HD behind a paywall on satellite etc.

True but surely the cheapest thing to do would have been to put 5* +1 or 5 USA +1 onto the extra slot on Freeview. Replacing or creating additional 24/7 streams on other platforms seems crazy if it's only to accommodate 5 hours of actual programmes.

It would not mean buying a new SD Slot. 5*+1 is being scrapped on all platforms with 5USA+1 being moved into the old 5*+1 slot on Sky.

Regards earlier, 5USA+1 is not the worst performing channel, it's actually 5*+1.

Actually, channel 5 has got some good US shows:

Person of Interest
Sons Of Anarchy
The Mentalist
Justified

Channel 5 are not picking up the current season (5) and final season (6) of Justified but Netflix has 1- 4 so hopefully they will get 5 & 6.

They also have second run rights for shows such as Castle.

As a primetime repeat channel, for a large part of the year, Channel 5 +24 will have the bulk of it's schedule filled with repeats of the previous day's Big Brother episodes. That should really be compelling viewing. :td:

Fair enough, but just because you don't like them, doesn't make the programmes poor, and therefore Channel 5's output "very poor".

I agree. Equally anyone (not aimed at you solely) who says certain shows are good, does not mean the shows are actually any good either.
