Been sitting here watching a film on Horror+1 called Exorcism: The possession of Gail Bowers.

If there was ever a gong given for the crappiest B- movie for poor acting, direction, production, special effects, dialouge etc then this would win hands down. Never have I had to endured a film that is as dire as this, well not endure because its one of those films thats soooooo bad that you need to keep on watching just to see if it CAN get any worse. Even the gratuitous sex scene's are tardy, poorly acted and shot, T&A there may be, porn it aint, not even semi or soft which i'm sure is where some of its funding came from to get a movie like this off the ground. But then maybe some kid, his mum and a few fans of Blue Peter got together to make this.

It sometime beggars belief that films like this EVER get the funding to get beyond someones random thought whilst sitting on the throne on a sunday morning after a heavy night out on the beer and a very hot curry. The only redeeming feature of this film I guess is the end titles which I have yet to see (and wont) because the off button is going to be accessed right about NOW.............

Sorry that's just no true, Autumn (with Dexter Fletcher) would win.
I managed 3 minutes before I had to turn off.
Such a shame as I really liked the book.

Definitely a score of -47.

The Book of Eli

6.5/10

Good, & Denzel Washington has some great fight scenes, but it's not something I'd be fussed about watching again.

Sherlock Holmes (RDJ version)

7.5/10

Great stuff. Much better than I expected.

Unforgiven

9.5/10

Classic. Eastwood, Hackman, Freeman = legends. Also an appearance by the late, great Richard Harris (the original Dumbledore).

re: Rate the last movie you saw

Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace

7/10

Good: Darth Maul, Lightsaber duels, space battles, Palpatine's rise.

Bad: Jar Jar, Midichlorians, Anakin.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

8/10

Definite improvement on TPM. Less Jar Jar; even more lightsabre duels; clone troopers; more of Palpatine's scheming; Mace Windu (I can so imagine SLJ saying "Jedi Lightsabre. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every <badperson> in the room, accept no substitutes."); Christopher Lee;... and of course Yoda being a bad-ass.

Bit too much "Padme, I love you, wah wah wah", but I suppose it was necessary though.

Tomorrow: Episodes III and IV.

Daybreakers - 5/10.

Starts off with a neat concept (most humans are now vampires, and shows the changes that society has to implement due to not being able to go out during daylight), and then went a bit meh.

I watched Twilight yesterday and sorry, I found it very boring, too slow and absolutely no plot. The story could have been told in a half hour children's show.

I will give it 4/10 though, because I enjoyed the cinematography.

The Ghost Writer ( known as The Ghost in the UK) well this is a tough one to score. Its a drama there is very little action there is next to no bare skin ( besides Ewan McGregor who bares his backside for the girls I add no interest to me ) but its a very good story film. It holds your interest and it has some good twists and turns I have to give it a 7

if you want action and thrills you wont like this film. If you want an intelligent movie then you may well

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Hmm. 8.5/10. I'd forgotten how much I actually enjoy this one.

Great battle scenes, great lightsabre duels, Yoda kicking ass, rise of Palpatine & Vader, fall of the Republic...The best of the prequels IMO.

And, of course, it gave us...

Have you read or listened to any books from the SW extended universe? There are some cracking books that should be made into films.

The latest books are the "Fate of the Jedi" series but I suppose book talk is for another thread :)

Yup, I used to have a whole load of the SW Expanded Universe novels, starting with Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy" / "Empire Trilogy" (which kickstarted the SW novel/EU resurgence).

Despite all the ones which came afterwards, I still think Zahn's were by far the best (although Kevin J Anderson's "Jedi Academy Trilogy" was very good). The X-Wing series of novels was very good too, and there were some other good ones, but there were also a lot of stinkers (such as, IIRC & IMO, "The Crystal Star" & "Children of the Jedi").

I got bored with the EU at some point during the "New Jedi Order" (the books with the "Yuuzhan Vong") & just stopped reading them...

__________________________________________________ ______________

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

The original classic. 10/10.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

One of those rare sequels that’s at least on a par with the original. 10/10

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Weakest of the three, but still great. Battle of Endor & Luke vs. Vader = Epic. 9/10

Those scores are all ignoring the “Special Edition” aspect of the Originals, although that’s obviously what I watched, given that you can’t actually get a decent quality version of the Originals on DVD.

I love the improved SFX of the SEs, especially the way the battles have more ships, and the Alderaan & Death Star explosions no longer look crap (Praxis Effect FTW), but…

ANH

Han & Greedo: WRONG! OK, better on the DVD release than the original version of the SE, but still WRONG.

Jabba: WRONG! It just looks really bloody stupid due to Han walking on Jabba’s tail. Wouldn’t be too bad, if it wasn’t for that.

ROTJ

Additional muppet song and dance at Jabba’s Palace: WRONG! Looks and feels stupid and out of place. Utterly unnecessary.

Galactic celebrations at the end: WRONG! WTF? So as soon as the Emperor is killed and the Death Star II is destroyed there is instant celebration across the galaxy, complete with fireworks? Get stuffed.

Anakin’s Force Ghost being that of Young Anakin (Hayden Christensen) rather than that of Old Anakin (Sebastian Shaw): WRONG! Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan Force Ghost wasn’t replaced with Ewan McGregor, so why was Shaw replaced with Christensen? Stupid, stupid, stupid. Was he Young Anakin when he died? No! Was he Young Anakin when he redeemed himself and turned away from the Dark Side? No!

Oh, George, why did you mess with them?… :(

Totally agree with that. It's not one of those films that it's a 'so bad it's good' type, like 'The Happening' where that is soo bad, probably the worse thing I've ever seen but it ends up great (for all the wrong reasons) and it's enjoyable.

The missus and I just saw Toy Story 3 in 3D and loved it. Like Up, I don't think 3d is essential, but I think you're missing out if you don't see it in 3d.

I'd imagine the short beforehand would be pretty lifeless and flat in 2d? It certainly wasn't the funniest of the pre films shorts, but visually was outstanding.

As for Toy Story 3, I think it's the best of the 3 (we watched 1 and 2 again last couple of weeks), as as well as being extremely funny, is very exciting as well :) 10/10

4 maybe 5/10

it was ok. watchable, but not scary like it was made out to be. credit due to the fact it was made on a really low budget, but to be fair, it really could have been made by a performing arts college class. it's kind of hard to see where the budget went, other than marketing and editing software tbh.

7/10. Not as good as the first three, to be honest and the 3D wasn't that great.

I am going off the concept of 3D, to be honest. It cost me nine pounds extra for the three of us and then they had the audacity to charge me another three pounds for the "hire" of the glasses, can you believe. As if you had the choice of watching the movie without them. :( :geez:

Love it since I first saw it in '99.. Unlike the first one where the main character isn't taking any risks in this one he's taking all the risks :) Must drag out the DVD and watch it again tonight :D

Salt

Good fast action film with a few twists, only though 90 minutes and I saw it more as a series pilot as the plot is left open in that way at the end

8/10

A Team 9/10

Stupidly brilliant over the top nonsense, missus and I loved it :)

although the end bit after the credits, seemed to be cut short as if the projectionist stopped the reel before it had properly finished
Spoiler:

old Face gave new Face a tip on moisturising, then it cut to 2 other ppl (I'm guessing one was Dwight Schultz)

The Expendables - 7/10.

One or two explosions, with the occasional scuffle - good fun; it looked as if Sly is handing over the Action Hero mantle to Jason Statham (imho).

The A Team

The "A" clearly stands for AWESOME :D

Even Mrs D liked it.

Great action & comedy all the way through.

Some nice little references too, e.g.

Spoiler:
The "movie" playing during Murdoch's escape listed "Reginald Barclay" in its credits ;)

Overall I liked the A Team - just didnt like how BA and Hannibal met each other. Come on, running across Mexico, stands in front of the A Team van. That was a bit too much. However apart from that it was good. 7.5 out of 10.

Currently watching the Green Zone. So far so good. Have a half hour left.

I liked that...After all, there's a plan in everything! :D

I really enjoyed Green Zone. I preferred it to The Hurt Locker.

Salt 8/10 with Angelina Jolie very well made if a little OTT and I will be surprised if a sequel is not made as she is a female Jason Bourne.

Toy Story 3: 9/10. An excellent film that has some real emotional moments.

I agree, there's certainly going to be a sequel. I loved every minute of it. It had me on the edge of my seat all the way through.

Is Diary of a Wimpy Kid suitable for a bunch of 5 year olds?

Finished watching Green Zone yesterday - awesome film. 9 out of 10.

Next on my viewing list is Unthinkable.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World - 10/10

Stupidly good although it helps if you have a love of late 80's/early 90's video games.

Expendables 7/10

Good dumb action film, but preferred the A-Team. Expendables seemed a bit too much like an excuse to link together some cool action sequences with action heroes.

In Bruges - excellent film, not predictable at all.

I'd agree with that.

I really enjoyed it, & it was great seeing Stallone, Arnie, & Willis in the same scene... but I think The A Team is a better brainless-action-movie.

Pity that JCVD & Seagal weren't in it too, instead of whoever those wrestlers were.

It was a great flashback to 80s action though.

Shutter Island 10/10

Some people say they hated the ending, I loved it great twist, and although I kind of guessed who inmate 67 was, the way it was revealed made it more shocking and feisty

The last words by Leo were very strong and deep

Totally agree, great film for those who want brain dead violence..

Matt did you not notice though that the Stallone/Arnie scenes were faked as you never saw them side by side and when you did see them next to each other one was always in silhouette.. They were probably never in the same studio together

10/10 for a film that got 2.6 on imdb? (though I don't rely on their scores too much myself).

Dog Pound - (no pun intended)
6/10, even though I enjoyed it as I do like those type of films, I'm annoyed they didn't add or change much from the original film - '****' which was miles better (9/10).
