Yes l do wish referees would show a bit more lenience as you say early in the match as generally a sending off then can ruin a match as we know.

Strange how this has seemed to be forgotten about in the media. Also how they've reported what Gerrard did as a shame to end his last game against United. Deliberately stamping on a player should get more than a 3 game ban imo. The people commending him for coming out after the game and giving interviews probably didn't realise that the one person he didn't say sorry to was the player he deliberately tried to hurt...but "Stevie" the medias sweetheart can get away with it I suppose.

Just imagine Rooney had stamped on 'Stevie' - he'd be hung, drawn and quartered by the media.

Good, I'm hoping for a 5 match ban. Going after a player's ankle can end a man's career. Never mind people in the crowd holding Balotelli back, I was impressed by De Gea's restraint. A nasty attack from a nasty player.

adzii_nufc 26-03-2015 13:27

Re: Football Season 2014/15

To be fair this is the only time I've seen Skrtel do something blatant and deny it. De Gea is fine. He's hardly Roy Keane. There are far nastier players put there. Our own Alan Shearer couldn't jump for a header without deliberately elbowing someone. Better yet, ask Niel Lennon how his chin is.

iadom 26-03-2015 16:23

Re: Football Season 2014/15

I still cringe when I remember the way Andy Carroll committed violent GBH on De Gea and completely got away with, horrendous challenge. it probably helped to toughen him up.

Re: Football Season 2014/15

And what about the career ending tackle by Ashley Barnes on Matic which to me was worthy of a 5 match ban and yet the FA did sod all.

Does look like a freight train hitting a deer, slower look and I'm not 100% sure, any opinions on Vidic actually sending Carroll flying? If you watch carefully it does look like Vidic barges him mid jump but can't really tell if there's actually contact.

On the other hand, this is absolutely disgraceful from Lennon, no room in the game for headbutting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss_7WGYa9nQ

Yep, anyone remember what punishment was dished out? The famous Shearer/England team incident for those who've forgotten

Roy Hodgson's decision to leave Harry Kane out tonight may be kicking up a storm - but his decision to restore ketchup to the menu has made the England camp a happier place than it was under Fabio Capello, according to Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

Hodgson replaced Capello in May 2012. The 67-year-old's informal manner is in contrast to the Italian's more authoritarian style.

"There can be too many rules," said Jagielka. "If Fabio didn't want anyone to have ketchup there was no ketchup. Roy allows us ketchup if we want."

At the 2010 World Cup, England's players had to plead with Capello to be allowed a beer after a woeful goalless draw with Algeria in Cape Town.
Capello had it spot on then, overpaid 'insert brown stuff that ends up in a toilet bowl here'

Still annoyed Capello was forced out.

Makes no difference - it was a very good away performance (albeit Bale-inspired) from Wales. I still say our best period was under Gary Speed and I was always sceptical about Coleman but after the game and with us at the top of our group (for now) I'm starting to feel slightly more optimistic.

Yes, we are, but then with the squad we have we shouldn't have ever really been in trouble, imo. 1 clean sheet since Pardew is a worry for me. Couple that with the idea that the players seem to think we're safe and Pardew's awful record against you lot and I think we can safely say that we'll be struggling on Saturday.

We'll see.

Right, well I was wrong - that was as easy a game as we've had all season.

What is the point of betting everything on Defoe and then hiring a manager who's going to play him wide in a front three? I said in January that it was a gamble and ignored problems in the rest of the side.

This is classic of that happens when you have side full of players rather than a 'team'. Agüero, Silva etc are all world class but there's no balance in City, I never thought I'd see a top-half club this season with a more shaky defence than United's but they've managed it.

And this is what worries me about United. SAF always resisted buying a side full of Galacticos and instead aimed for players who would fit in and be part of HIS team, evolving as it went along. And for the most part he got it right, it meant his higher spending was generally lower and less frequent compared to Chelsea, Real, City, Barca, Bayern etc so the pressure on him when United's form dipped was decreased.

LVG strikes me as the opposite. OK I'm one of the fans who wants to see big names joining United for the current evolution but I'd rather a successful and functioning team than a group of misfiring superstars.

Pretty happy at how Fellaini is playing (finally) and Herrera (or as the Northern Irish commentator on BBC 5 says his name, "HrrRRrrr") is impressive, is the current midfield finally starting to gel - a few months late - or is it just a temporary run of good form? I'm not yet convinced about LVG enough to be sure it's not just the latter.

United seem like a different team since the Spurs game and sudden form in the PL like that tends to vanish as unexpectedly as it arrives. Real and lasting improvement usually builds up over time and that's just not happened at United. OK we've been in or around the top 5 for ages but for the most part we've ridden our luck in matches.

Awful. As the first generation of southerners born in to a family of Sunderland fans I've had to be quite sheepish today!

I don't think anyone can comprehend the logic behind having Defoe on the wing, maybe it's the same logic that's kept Rooney behind the striker for half of his career. I feel Rooney would be all over Shearers record if playing as the striker. Rooney could've broke it, Henry could've broke it and Ronaldo would've destroyed it. Sunderland will stay up even if they have a poor finish same with Newcastle on the basis teams below them will do worse.
