Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

They changed some routing stuff 3 or 4 days ago after seeing something wrong with the traffic going across the Croydon core network. Seems that caused some areas to get a lower minimum latency while others saw it increase the same amount.

While they was fiddling I had a brilliant connection for 2 hours, 14ms with 1 jitter. Considering I have had high latency, serious jitter and packetloss for 6 months it was unusual. Then they changed it again and I got massive jitter off peak too, much worse than it usually is.

Im sure they did some core routing changes in multiple places which is affecting many peeps in different ways.

oh believe me when I say I tried everything! I have a thread on it.

after a weekend of pretty messy graphs it seems to have stabilized today after a spike just after midnight last night. gonna have to keep an eye on it though! I hadn't seen the graph so bad in a while as the past few days.

Looks like my SH rebooted itself today. Gave me a new IP address as well.

Ohh, and moved to SGYL32 from 33 and got another downstream channel. Maybe coinciding with the work that was to be finished on the 12th.

times, dates differ Seph. mine played up a few weeks ago. prior and after that i did notice a few monitors show up a cockup. i noticed all of this has come about after VMs announced route work. could they not have flicked the switch off and on for each area after the work was completed or isnt this linked or wasnt anticipated ?

Could you post this in yourt other thread please, together with your Down/Up power levels. I'd like to see if the channels have changed.

The TBB looks like up to 21:00 yesterday you were enjoyying something like your original issue. Note the minimum latency slope.

Unfortunately power cycling the vmdg280 won't do much in this case. Major issues where I am which have fix dates of April 2013, hence why I have been angry with virgin and got sky installed yesterday.

Should have had the VM line cut off yesterday but they insisted on keeping it connected for another 2 weeks. Won't be using it but keeping an eye on the graphs for a while.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Of course, but the restarts are mostly for trying to get R37 anyway, there's plenty of people that still don't have it when it was supposed to be available for everyone yesterday.

It's just a case of swings and roundabouts, it can be fine for months then the performance gets choppy, they fix it then it's fine for a while again. Thankfully things aren't as bad as three months ago when we were getting a lot of dropouts due to a whacked amplifier that they replaced.

@ Chienmort Have you been into advanced settings on your superhub and ticked Wan Ping Respond (respond to ICMP echo requests )if you haven't you will just get all red.
@buckleb I have been having a very similar problem as you, and have just had a tech out who confirmed what Sephiroth had already said "that the problem was down to noise on the system" apparently on the Wirral they have been doing all sorts of upgrades and in doing so have introduced a load of noise on the line. Mine has improved since yesterday although it's still not 100% ok but now I have a ticket number and a completion date (hopefully). Maybe yours is something similar.

Do you have QoS enabled on your router? It would be good to know if your router is prioritising traffic as well as your isp. Also fess up if you give icmp echo packets the highest priority ;)

Thought you would get a bit more yellow than that, even with your incredibly high minimum latency.

Keep in mind I stuck with 40/10 XD

Nah - you could be doing that for the rest of your life!

If I recall correctly overnight everything but the NAS is off. I forget - when the NAS is off, does the minimum latency on TBB drop to around 20?

If not then it's external; if it is, then someone needs to investigate this at a deep level - not resolvable in forum exchanges. Wireshark's been mentioned - in "promiscuous mode" I would add! That needs a brainio in Teesdie!

I've always wondered if this was an issue or not?

My Broadband Ping

My connection feels solid enough and always has done so I'm not too bothered and I've definitely seen worse on here.

My connection has really taken a nose dive ever since they doubled the speeds, I am guessing they did not bother with any capacity upgrades for it as nothing changed for months well before the upgrade until now.
This is all with fairly light use.

This was what it used to look like not even a month ago.

Those bouts of high max latency then low max latency are normal for the vmng300.

I seem to have this problem again, after a reset it goes back to normal for a few days then the minimum latency creeps up strangely and then often i get the large yellow spikes.

Not really sure what to make of it and haven't done any tests to see how it is affecting my connection.

something happened about 9:30 and yellow changed to a thick straight height line
About 4 i change upstream...lower jitter for little time but same result

Going by the amount of blue in the graph, it looks fairly stable. Many other virgin customers would drool at the consistency you have  Do you actually notice any bad effects from that connection?

Seems there was a bit of high utilisation on my line last night:

That amount of yellow is relatively normal/low on VM. Given the level of the blue, no more than 1 in 20 packets are actually hitting that latency.

Mine seems stable now since i managed to change 1 of the 2 upstream channels from 4 to 5.

Nice. Congestion problems at Christmas, fixed in two weeks. Makes a change from you-know-who...

Never before have I witnessed such desperation in a post XD

Yeah, that exchange was noticed and the fix is due Monday. Would love to see the percent of vm's over utilisation issues which take 2+ weeks to resolve as im betting it is 95% of them or something similarly silly :)

Looks like changing the channel didn't cure my problem.

My problem is that the minimum latency creeps up on a slope after several hours and then the maximum latency gets unstable, has anyone seen this before, do you think it is a fault with my modem or a general fault in my area?

Below is an example of where my above link is heading in a day or so.
