I'm suprised, though, that 1) ITV thinks they would be worth that sort of money (i.e only Xl customers will get them "free") and 2) Sky (and sooner rather than later VM) would be willing to spend that cash on them.

A guy over at ds has spoken to someone on twitter and was told its definately happening and expect an announcement imminently.

Said there were announcements about other HD channels coming in the next couple of weeks including the announcement about the Sky basic HD channels

Anyone know what the power consumption ON and in STANDBY for this box, can't find out on google:(

My old SMT-2100C used 15.2w in standby and 16.2w when turned on, hoping it uses less power, especially when in standby.

The BBC has stated the channel should be on Air in the Autumn. Not sure when VM will launch it though.

I would say the Comedy Central HD story is true, as the channel listing on VM from Electric Magazine's August issue lists Comedy Central HD

They still have to pay Sky for every sub sold. This will be VM taking the hit on Sky HD, because you are paying more for your broadband product.

Thanks DF. In that case I think I'll stick with my 6 month discount from the CEO office and see what the revamped package brings. A VM engineer has recommended against me upgrading to 50Mb in past due to our area being so oversubscribed by students anyway.

Hoping someone can help me I have now got the HD channels(Sports and Movies) and since its been on Ive got a £20 Credit on My Account what could that be all about?

Its was not on there before the HD Channels went on and im on the VIP Pack with 20Meg but end of the month will be on 50Meg.

I can confirm I now have the sports and films in HD without doing anything, and broadcasting in DD 5.1 which makes all the difference.

If Sky are re-branding a Previously owned Virgin Media channel on Friday 3rd September, then I would be very suprised if we do not get the sky Basic channels the same day, or at least Sky One HD.

If you read the press release it says that with Sky1 HD, Sky Arts HD and now Comedy Central HD Virgin Media will have over 30 channels. With Sky News and SS news this would mean we have 31 channels.

Of course the other 2 channels could be anything.

Why don't VM move SyFy next to SyFy HD and +1 instead of moving Comedy Central Extra? I really hope they do a complete EPG overhaul once we get BBC One HD, the Sky Basics HD and all the ITV channels because there's no longer a need for Living and Virgin1/Channel One to be so high up and displace the popular digital channels along with their timeshifts and/or HD simulcasts.

Yeah I've read MB's guide before, but in my opinion all the UKTV channels are more popular than all the channels Sky just bought so they should be given prominence, especially as that is all Virgin owns now broadcasting wise. Plus the guide was made prior to the ITV 2, 3 & 4 HD announcements which would move a lot of things.


I don't know why VM don't do a mass overhaul, Telewest didn't have a problem when they added channels 1 to 99 and completely changed multiple channels numbers. I think they may be planning something that cuts down on all the +1 and HD variants with the TiVo box, but I'm probably wrong.

Can you remember what the EPG was like before everything got moved around, that was a real mess. I see that there is quite a lot of space on 180 through to 200 it is a shame that they are moving Comedy Extra so far away form the others surely they could jiggle something around or move all the Comedy Central Channels as i love flicking through them and so does the Mrs.

Personally, I'd move all those to the very end of the EPG; Virgin got rid of a lot of junk channels to Sky in my view :) And we got HD in return :tu:

Would like SS 1-4 on, say, 501-504, then maybe HD1 & HD2 on 511 & 12, with hopefully 513 and 514 being reserved for HD3 and HD4 :D

yeah 160gb is very low, virgin wouldn't be paying much more for 320gb hdd's or even 500gb hdd's, its a shame its so small, they can't fit many HD recordings on :(

Don't forget that with US imports HD also equals widescreen so even if the extra resolution isn't made much use of the fact that it's not in 4:3 is good. Just see the HD episodes of The Simpsons as an example.
