That's because they aren't rating enough programmes as they watch. :)

Surely people know to thumbs up or thumbs down.

If it's not for you, then you can disable suggestions in the menu. I was open minded about them and rated programmes and it now is pretty much spot on with suggestions.

Having used TiVo for nearly 10 years it is very good and often spots some gems I'd never have seen otherwise.

I rarely drift off of the first few channels on the guide myself and know there are many other channels that probably have stuff I'd be interested in, but to be honest I don't have the time or inclination to look for, whereas TiVo does (or will when I get my new one).

Makes far more of the other channels I never use, the same is true of wishlists. I know I will be watching more programmes from Discovery and Nat Geo because of TiVo, I probably wouldn't any other way.

It wasn't without issues though I found if you thumbed down too much it tended to get way off as it'd get the impression you hated a broad spectrum of stuff. So I tended only to thumb up and not thumb down unless it was something really awful (i.e. football or Eastenders!).

I notice it automatically gives one thumbs up to any series you set to record.

Yeah and if you really like that programme, it's a good idea to give it more thumbs up :)

When we receive these emails on/around the 20th, do we know how long will they be valid for? Want to know if pre-reg prices will stick around through April (when I can afford £149). If not, I'll start busking now... :)

Re: TiVo

My TiVo arrived on Tuesday - I have to say I'm very impressed!! :p::p:

I'm a series 1 owner and am used to the "thumbing" habit, so far it has only recorded suggestions that I like :tu:

The SD picture quality on my Sony 40 inch LCD is very good; as good as the V+ box I had. HD pictures are fantastic!!

The engineers was an interesting chap. He advised that the normal installers were not trained to install TiVo yet - he said that he was a technician that usually specialises in finding network faults. He said the only Virgin staff trained and currently installing TiVo were technicians like him.

He also advised that 500,000 people had pre-registered.... when I questioned him saying surely he meant 50,000 people he was definite on the 1/2 million (still does not sound right to me, whenever I mention TiVo to anyone they always say "What?")

If he is right about the numbers that will be an awful long wait for everyone that's pre-registered especially when you consider the usual installation guys have not been trained yet. :( I hope he was wrong for the sake of all those on this forum still waiting.

For what it's worth - I pre registered and also told them I am S1 Tivo owner (which I am!!), but they did no checks to verify this and the engineer did not ask to see my old TiVo.... I'm not going to suggest those still waiting to tell Virgin you have a series 1 TiVo but...... ;)

If true (and I doubt it very much), that's around 13.1% of VM's TV customer base (3.8 million).

And I was hoping to get a TiVo before Xmas. :):erm:

Only 1 hour 15mins till the 3rd tuner roll out starts!

I hope the third tuner does get activated tomorrow, this would benefit us hugely, especially as it can record three simultaneously - apparently!
