Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

Downloaded my data from Octopus
They have data from my Gas, so not sure why its not showing up yet.
Octoprice seems to have some handy information.

Edit: My gas switched while I was looking on Octoprice.
I'm now on Tracker for both, that seems pretty quick, less than a day after requesting.

You will likely get bills from your old meters up to the point you switched soon.

Question I need to transfer my dads EON to me, can they or if I eventually go to another supplier, make me use a smart meter.

No, but they can refuse to take you on if you dont have one.

If it needs to be replaced, because its faulty, you'll get a smart meter.
Otherwise if your meter hasnt expired (reached EOL) then you can keep it.

If it's EOL they will tell you it needs to be replaced, and are unlikely to offer you anything other than a smart meter.
Of course, you can choose to ignore them (at least for now) but at some point in the future, they may force the issue.

Of course, what they are slowly doing is making SMART tariffs cheaper, so by hanging on, you pay more.
I held off for many years, but my E7 meter was 34 years old, so I decided it was finally time to move over.

I don't think they can make you have a smart meter when transferring from your Dad's account and you don't need to have a smart meter yet unless they start saying it's EOL.

This may help you for the transfer from Dad.

No, unless your meter is faulty or at the end of its life, or its a condition of the tariff you sign up to.

Re: Smart Meter, Yae or Nae?

I spent two years (12 month tariffs) with eon just ignoring their emails and hanging up the phone to them despite it being a condition of my offer.

They have tightened the wording though to “within 90 days” so maybe they are taking it more seriously. I’m currently on the variable tho, so no requirement.

So I wondered why they processed my old gas, but not electric.
Turns out to be Fracking incompetance again.
They have the two old readings the wrong way around AGAIN. :dozey:
I mean FFS, how hard is it to enter two readings, clearly labelled.

Another wait while they sort out another screw up.
They still need to remove the SMART meter I dont have as well.

I dread to think how your bills are going to look.

Their system wont process them while they are wrong.
They magically fixed them last time when I pointed that out.
Its just annoying they cant get two readings correct, its not rocket science.

5 days, 5 emails from Scottish Power. I MUST make a booking to change both the gas and electricity meters, as they are "probably inaccurate due to their age".

Best thing i ever did was move to a smart meter and then to Octopus. I did read there are trials ongoing that use mesh receivers in lamp posts that can pick up the meters and forward that back to the central receiving stations. Seems to be going very well and has fixed most of the issues around meters not being picked up. There is a similar system being installed for Mobile phone networks in congested areas and city centres.

Can you not just phone them and state you only want emails for your bills and nothing else. Or just manage your account online and block there emails.

Or what? Wait for a court order, otherwise ignore them. Tbf both my Gas supplier (EDF), and my electricity supplier (EON), have respected my wish not to contacted about smart meters. Giving them my phone no as 01234567890 might have helped ;)

They must have an email opt out. Use it, or just send the mails to junk.

Yeah they seem to be pushing smart meters again, were getting daily emails and text messages.
