I guess they give me instructions on how to return or dispose of the Tivo.

Yes. You'll get returns packaging if they want it back.

They are also available on the V+ and V-HD boxes

When my replacement V6 came this week, a note said not to return the old TiVo but to recycle it.
Follow the self install instructions carefully and there should be no problem. Make sure you ring the number provided before you start.

The Virgin Media Store app is now on the older TiVo.

Has anyone else noticed this

MB HQ can reveal that the top up Eurosport Channels are also on Virgin Media Ireland.

420 - Eurosport 3 HD
421 - Eurosport 4 HD
422 - Eurosport 5 HD

Because while they still have the rights to Irish Racing until the end of 2018 they will need to replace those considerable lost rights with replacement content thus one suspects that is the main reason why it has been pushed back till early next year before they launch Sky Sports Racing..

To give you more time to watch your recordings:

If you want to keep your Tivo recordings, heres how:
  1. Unplug your tivo from the coax, but leave it powered on
  2. Call the activation line
  3. Connect the v6 up
  4. Simples

It should last a couple of weeks before the old Tivo box dies. You can't access the old recordings via the V6 over a network, as VM remove the Tivo box from your account and the V6 will only connect to other devices on your network that are part of your account (bit stingy there VM, but oh well). You have to just use another HDMI connection for the old Tivo whilst you watch recordings.

The self-install box has a leaflet in saying you dont need to return the old box you are replacing, so theoretically you can keep it running like this until it decides it's giving up trying to connect and commits harri-kari.
