woopty do for you. Why though anyone needs to buy that much RAM I don't know.

Let me see an iPad or lots of RAM. I'll stick with my iPad thanks :dozey:

6 servers with 18 RAM slots each.

I go through dozens of iPad orders every month. Nothing special, I expect they'll come begging for the iPad 3 soon enough.

We have only ordered 9 iPads in the last six months - unless they can show a pedagogical benefit, they have to buy their own......

Heh. The researchers around here have tons of spare budget and if they don't spend it they lose it, so they often just buy the most expensive shiniest stuff they can find. Which in most cases means the Linux department academics end up all working on a pile of iMacs, Macbooks and iPads.

Hooked up to Apple Cinema Displays of course.

Re: The Apple iPad Thread

I wasn't sure if I should put this in the Google Android thread or here but since it seems that the Ipad is where the problem lies I'll try here.
My problem is that I'm trying to transfer an MP4 that is correctly formatted for the iPad from my HTC evo or my Xoom. Neither are having any luck, they will send to eachother and even other phones but the iPads having none of it. I've tried Bluetooth and WiFi without much success, got furthest with WiFi but then safari refused to download an item in that format so I decided that rather than waste more of my time I would tap some of your collective wisdom on here to find out if its even possible to send MP4s to the iPad without iTunes on a desktop of some variety?

Edit: Its an iPad 2 16gb 3G if that makes a difference? And we are willing to purchase Apps for android or IOS if its guaranteed to work but not willing to Jailbreak the iPad (Xoom is allready rooted and running ICS US official).

Try Dropbox if they're not huge file sizes. Not tested myself so I don't know if Dropbox will allow you to choose an app to play the files once you've obtained them. Worth a go though, it's free and very handy to have.

Not really an option either I'm afraid since he doesn't have a home broadband and doesnt want to loan me his ipad to use my home bb. We have been trying to do the transfer at work and neither of us have enough mobile broadband data to move it all. Which is why I thought Bluetooth would be perfect if a little slow.

iOS does not support Bluetooth for data transfer... only e.g. audio and keyboards.

Is iTunes totally out of the question then?

Not out of the question, just not ideal. That is unless you can do a guest connection on iTunes? Because if not that means it will need to be partnered with my laptop since he doesn't have one of his own. Unless I am mistaken about the whole partnership process and it won't effect the transferred content if he connects it to a different desktop with iTunes?

Just create another user on the laptop and install another itunes.

I don't have any apple products so that wont effect me what I meant was that if he buys a new desktop in a few months time will it not delete all the content I have copied once he partners it up to his ipad?

I'm not sure about video content, but I'd have to say probably.. That said, if he has a desktop there's no problem is there - just put them back on!
We have 6 Apple devices here and I never use iTunes unless I'm updating firmware as I hate the damn thing.
I transfer music and video to and from them all using CopyTrans as it just works instead of being fussy.

Just got myself a new iPad 64GB Wifi from Best Buy - saved around £70 on the UK price.
