Very good. Not my favourite out of all the movies nominated for this year's big Oscars, but I would much rather see this clean up than Avatar.

Damn right. Both should see a massive improvement, but I suspect Alien will see the larger improvement purely because of Ridley Scott's use of visual styles..

I saw "From Paris With Love" today. This certainly isn't the love story/romcom the title makes it sound like. It's a rip roaring action thriler from the pen of Luc Besson.

Wall to Wall fights (both hand and gun), some excellent stunts and an excellent car chase all held together with a well written and believable story.

In fact the only thing that did seem a little contrived was John Travolta's character's name, which seemed to have been picked to give a reason for one of the lines. You'll know what I mean if you see it.

Even though it's a French movie, there aren't that many subtitles (if you are the type of person that hates them) as the majority of the dialog is in English.

Also, despite the fact that beyond writing (and having a cameo in) it, Luc Besson wasn't involved, it definately feels like one of his films. I suspect if you like them (particularly La Femme Nikita) you'll like this.

9/10

Think you might have that backwards, Downey junior had a cameo as Tony Stark in the Incredible hulk, Don't think it was the other way ;)

Sam L Jackson was in Iron Man playing Nick Fury to speak about the Avenger Initiative as far as I can remember and Tony Stark appeared at the end of Hulk to tell Gen. Ross that a team was being put together :)

The 'orphan' steals the show.
Very promising performance from Isabelle Fuhrman, but the rest was just jumbled, late night, TV movie fare.

I thought it was excellent. Johnny Depp was excellent as Hatter. It would of been awesome to have seen Chester and the Tweedles more, cause they didn't seem to be in it much and if they were then the chances are they had no lines.

I think the film would have been a lot better if they just re-recorded films all the way through, rather than turning it into a "isn't community great?' film

Legion: 5/10. Quite an enjoyable film, with some good acting. Particularly from Paul Bettany (who is wonderfully creepy as the Angel Micheal) and Lucas Black (who was excellent as the boy, Caleb, in American Gothic and is proving to be a good actor given good material).

Spoiler:
In fact the main thing that bothers me is that they tell us God wants to kill the unborn child of a pregnant character without explaining either why he wants to do this or why he doesn't simply induce a miscarriage.

I got the same experience with John Grisham books a few years back. I loved them until I read three together (one after the other), and realised they are all basically about the heroic lawyer who takes on either the authorities or corporate america on behalf of the little guy and wins.

I am not saying Ricky Gervais does that, but I suspect that if you watch too much of his stuff, it will feel a little samey.

Alice in Wonderland 3D - 7/10

Not as bad as but suffered same problem as Gilliam's Dr Parnassus, seams Burton got caught up too much in making it look nice (which it did) but forgot to make his version of the story engrossing.

It all looked pretty but the missus and I were disappointed. Also, unlike Avatar and Up we thought the 3d was just tacked on and wasn't really necessary :(

Posting some of these now, as the list is getting a bit long.

Teen Wolf: Still an enjoyable classic. 8/10

Hot Shots! Part Deux: Still hilarious. 8/10

The Zombie Diaries: I liked it until the ending, about which the only redeeming quality was some boobage. If they'd given it a better ending I'd have given it a 7. 6/10

7 Seconds: Not-bad heist/action movie, with a couple of decent car chases. 7.5/10

Syriana: I expected something better from what I'd heard of it, the whole telling the story with 3 seperate plot-lines thing spoilt it, in my opinion. 5/10

Ambulance Girl: Not-bad drama, with some funny moments. 7/10

Anger Management: Frequently funny, but also frustrating - as there's no way I would have put up with some of the things the main character did, but then that's kind of the point of the film. 7/10

NightScream: Supposedly a "horror", but only really a drama/thriller. Some interesting twists & turns to the plot. 6.5/10

Thirst: Pretty average disaster movie about a city's water supply getting infested with a bacteria that manages to get through all the filtration at the local water plant. 6/10

10 Things I Hate About You: Pretty good RomCom, ...plus Julia Stiles. 8/10

Date Movie: Equal parts hilarious & gross. Hard to imagine Alyson Hannigan being unsexy, but they actually achieved it for the first part of the movie. 8/10

Iron Maiden: Flight 666: Interesting behind-the-scenes look at them on tour. 7/10

Savage Planet: You may have noticed that I don't mind watching low-budget/made-for-TV movies now & then... this was not 1 of the better ones. I mean, seriously - you make a film about people travelling to another [Earth-like] planet, where they end up on the menu of the local wildlife, & the best you come up with is bears?! Smegging BEARS! http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42...es/wtfsign.gif :fit: 3/10

Death Wish II: Not too bad I suppose. 6/10

K-PAX: A bit odd, but a charming & ejoyable movie. 7.5/10

Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Mork & Mindy': Very funny in places, mostly because Chris Diamantopoulos does a very good job of capturing the essence of Robin WIlliams' rapid-fire comedy. It also provides an interesting insight into how the network ruined the show. 7.5/10

Formula for Death: Not bad Made-For-TV medical conspiracy thriller. 7/10

Death Wish 3: Best of the 3, IMHO. Not bad for a mid-80s action flick. 7.5/10

Little Man Tate: I found it a bit sad/depressing overall, even though it had a happy ending. 6/10

Day Watch: Pretty cool film, though a little bit hard to follow in places. 8/10

Would have just been an episode of South Park without the puppets. To be honest I think it's a bit of a marmite film anyway. It's also very immature and a bit too political for the type of film it is.

Watched this last week (in 3D) Although it had the odd moment I didnt feel it was as good as it has been portrayed in adverts and features. Could have done without paying £8.45, mind you if I had the choice to pay what I thought it was worth £3.00 would have been too much lol. The Ghost.

A story written by Robert Harris (he of Fatherland fame), and adapted by Robert Harris and Roman Polanski.

The premise is that Ewan McGregor is a Ghost writer for autobiographies. He is hired by the ex prime minister (Pierce Brosnan, looking strikingly like Tony Blair) and his wife (Olivia Williams, looking strikingly like Cherie Blair) to ghost write his memoirs, after the previous Ghost writer is killed.

Ewan (who's character is not named in the film) must find out what actually happened.

Excellent film, excellently acted. Even the stark lighting and sets add to the atmosphere. No gimmicks (such as funky music, or special effects), but none are needed. The film keeps you on the edge of your seat for the whole 2 hours 8 minutes it's on.

9/10

Iron Man 8/10 hadn't seen it since we saw it at the cinema, and really enjoyed it again. Will probably see Iron Man 2 tomorrow or next weekend.

Got to disagree with Stuart about The Ghost Writer, I thought it was pretty good but the acting was awful, everyone was hamming it up (especially Pierce Brosnan and the activist outside the house) and McGregor's cockney accent was terrible. 8/10 though.

Shutter Island, 2/10 rather amazing bad especially considering that Martin Scorsese directed it and a stellar cast, you would be better employed watching an old Hitchcock movie to see how this type of movie should really be done something like Rear Window.

Iron Man 2 7.5/10

Iron Man 2 was not as good as Iron Man, probably because it lost pace in the middle, and I found Hammer too annoying, but still enjoyable and glad we saw it.

Avatar BD - 9/10 (for the quality), 6/10 for the story.

I didn't realised how much I had missed when I saw it in the cinema in 3D, as I was so blown away by the 3D.

Local Picture House cinema had a Miyazaki double bill this afternoon, so saw

Ponyo - 9/10 loved it really funny, and really nice :)

Spirited Away - 5/10 I'd seen it on DVD before a long time ago, but still found it a bit long and dull. IMHO very overrated, much prefer Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbour Totoro.

Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)

First of all Jackie Earle Haley did a poor job playing Freddy Krueger, the movie itself was ok.

Same typical thing tbh, College teens having issues.

6/10

I enjoyed it, but i've seen something like this a thousand times before.

Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)

9/10

Totally enjoyed this reimagining of the Elm Street story. I thought Jackie Earle Haley did a great job as Krueger and came across as totally creepy and pretty frightening.

They gave Freddy a deeper back story and actually tied his original downfall to the kids he was going after which I thought was much better and IMO made him more menacing.

Recently watched the Original film after not seeing it for a while and while there were some changes many of the original elements were still present in the new verson.

Four Lions - 9/10

left the cinema 20 minutes ago, sides literally still hurt from laughing so much! It's extremely funny :)

Saw it at my local Picture House where we saw Iron Man 2 last week. Interestingly that was in small screen last week, and tonight Robin Hood is in small screen while Four Lions continues in large screen! Four Lions was popular than Iron man 2 last week as well.

"War Of The Worlds" was on TV tonight.

To start with it looked like it was set in the 1970's until they showed a TV and a mobile phone, and then I just thought it was average.

4/10

I watched it too, but I disagree with your assessment. I give it 8/10. It was very well shot, although it didn't keep to the storyline, the script was sympathetic to Wells's vision. It would have been very difficult to relate to everything that Wells had written, to compare it the modern world.

The strongest aspect to the movie's power, was that it concentrated more on the experiences and relationships of Ray Ferrier and his family and less on the aliens who were invading their lives. The fact that little was seen of the invaders and their machines, added to the tension, as much that the viewer was more concerned with what happened to the Ferrier family, than the world they lived in.

Is that the one with Tom Cruise?

I couldn't stand it. I thought Cruise's character was utterly unsympathetic, & I couldn't stand his irritating children. I actually found myself routing for the aliens... :erm:

Paranormal Activity - 5/10

I thought it wasn't that bad... until the ending rendered the rest of the movie pointless.
