The light works in subtle ways. Sometimes the dark do not even know they have been beaten untill it's too late.

I've got 3 months left on my SKY deal at half price, keeping an eye on virgin. The good news is should I return, and time it correctly, I can get Virgin half price for a full year too! 24 months of premium TV and services for half price is great:D

News just in: Hold up of new channel launches is due to some TiVo updates for the Netflix tests.

I have just been told the channel launches that was set for last night was 'put back due to some areas having a major Tivo update'.

FOX + and Disney HD are now likely to launch within next two weeks.

I will update when launches dates and Channel number for Disney HD is confirmed.

Awfully exciting all this.

MB- if a deal has been done for the sky HD channels (which it sounds like it has if they're testing) what would you say the chances are it includes additional channels like sky atlantic etc too?

Only reason i ask is sky are usually so stubborn for agreeing anything the fact they've agreed sky sports news hd and sky news hd shocks me!

I think I read years ago that Virgin can launch any Sky Basic HD Channels if they pay the asking price - Look like Virgin are set to do this for the last HD Channels (Sky News HD and Sky Sports News HD) they signed back in 2010.

Virgin need an new deal to carry Sky Atlantic, Sky Atlantic HD, Pick TV +1, Sky1 +1 and Sky Bravo.

Interesting list but as far as I'm aware they are currently not in talks for universal hd,when I spoke to someone as ceo's office in July it was deemed a high profile channel at that current time.maybe there stance as changed

VM is best value for money got the best box best BB and free bt sports with multiroom if they get all the missing sky channels its very obvious sky will lose customers to VM as I said all sky got over VM is the channels if both where same VM would win hands down sky wont want to lose customers to VM

sky could be looking to crush BT.sky know virgin wont drive them out of business but BT will find it hard to get new broad band and tv to sign up.sky will not make a loss because they still get money for the channel. BT has only two channel to shell.sky are thinking a head two three years .

Fox + and Disney hd are confirmed but their launch has been delayed due to a TiVo update being pushed in some pilot areas which, among a few improvements, includes a Netflix app. Netflix will arrive on all TiVos by the end of the year and rumours abound that it might be included at no extra cost in some Virgin tv packages, i.e. xl and/or VIP.

IF Sky and VM are in talks for various channels. IF, they sign a contract today for say Atlantic, and another channel comers along, does that mean to say that Vm have to wait for that contract to end before they can start talking about the new channel ?

I have really no idea on how Liberty Global works but Virgin Media before the takeover did wait until they contract was up to talk to broadcasters about getting new channels. But Broadcastnow says Sky Bravo launch is on hold until Sky can get the new deal with Virgin Media signed.

All paying TV Customers have BT Sport today for free (for the Rugby)

At a guess the non-XL take up of BT Sport isn't as much as VM/BT hoped

To be honest Dave products and prices are constantly changing , its impossible to state which service is best you can only look at it from your point of view as people have different needs , my current package is cheaper with Sky but to counter that VM would offer me BT Sports however I have to admit I'd sooner have all the Sky Sports channels in HD but again that's personal preference put simply there's no wrong or right in fact its good the providers offerings are so different with more and more choice all the time , I'm sure VM have loads more additions to arrive likewise so do Sky.

The pay TV industry is constantly evolving to stay ahead of the free services such as freeview and freesat and the cheaper streaming options like Lovefilm and Netflix.

Don't count BT Vision out , whilst it may not currently rival VM or Sky I'm sure the service will get better and better with time especially when you consider it becomes available to more and more people each day with BT's rapidly expanding fibre footprint , BT also have plenty of money behind them and are keen to increase triple play take up.

yes it all comes down to what is best for you in deciding what provider to choice MM mate sky would cost me lot more for what I got so not a option for me plus would lose over half my bb speed and lose on demand on 1 box as could not afford to buy a extra sky + box yes I would prefer all the sky sports HD channels but don't get the option as sky withholding 4 of them cant see that changing at all but love to be proved wrong on that I cant see bt paying the billions it needs to compete with sky as sky will up they bids for certain

Had a call today from sales as my contract in up in October. Was offered a 1TB Tivo swap for my Tivo 500 and another 1TB for my sons room (bringing me up to 4x1TB) and taking off my XL phone, as we dont use the landline much now, all for £77 a month and no installation costs. Keeping L BB and XL TV. Or instead of a 4th Tivo I could have a V+ box for £72 a month.
Good offers?

Have'nt made my mind up on that yet, but the sales lady said that theres some good stuff coming for XL and up customers this autumn with new bundles on the apps side, such as Netflix and Spotify. I know sales are for selling, but I will be pleased if Spotify is included some how, as I pay £9.99 a month for that alone.

Pretty sure this is false information.

Reason being, CBS Action has been available for free on the M+ and L packages since it launched on Virgin Media, so it's not really a freeview.

Also when I last checked the Virgin Media channel list on the website, CBS Reality, and + 1 and Horror Channel + 1 and CBS Drama were listed on the L package area(Not sure if this has changed, as I can't view the channel list on the Virgin Media.com website at the moment..).

Not to mention I've viewed these channels many times on the L package and nothing about a freeview has come up.

Yes. Though it always did for some people. :)

It's still capacity that would otherwise be available for BB or VOD or Linear TV channels. If there is to be a capacity reserved for Netflix use, then if nobody is using it at a particular time, then that capacity is going to waste.

It's shared with BB, but couldn't be reused for VOD or linear TV without some serious re-engineering. They use different frequencies.

True, but that's not unique to Netflix. The same applies to all VM services.

you would be wise to check

before making any such claims { - there may be a more recent one. }

look at 197 CBS Drama - see the note about 3 rd October

that channel was XL only as listed at

I trust you will withdraw your claim.

BT Sports 1, BT Sports 2 and ESPN being added to XL at no extra cost is great for the sports fans. Plus it's multiroom and accessible via Virgin Anywhere.

As I SKY customer I had to pay £15.00 registration fee, pay £15.00 per month and can't watch the channels in my bedroom. I have to pay a separate monthly subscription to BT, which is a pain in the ass, and I can't watch the channels as part of SKY Go.

SKY still have the wider channel selection, but most channels are terrible. In terms of an overall TV, Broadband and Phone experience Virgin are starting to edge SKY in my humble opinion.

No Atlantic in your list and every channel you listed is already on Sky so not sure what point your trying to make. Sky have the Fibre option to sell so Virgin will start to lose the only USP that they had.

Since I last frequented here your main arguments were always, Tivo, cable works in bad weather, Catch up selection, 3 Tuners and Fibre for staying with Virgin.

Jury is out for me on Tivo, never liked it and in no way is it miles better than the Sky box that some on here make out. I lost the signal less times in 13 years with sky with the weather than I did in a year with Virgin with network failures so not convinced on that one. Catch up selection is now better on Sky and even better if you use the Sky Go option on your ipad or android device. 3 Tuners well catch up is better on sky so you can always get whatever you've missed on that. I've got fibre and to cap it all I pay less than what I did with Virgin.

Ive borrowed my Mates Sky box whilst he is on Holiday, Atlantic is pap 95% of the time, through the day its absolute rubbish on there.. upscaled american rubbish at that. Anybody who knows me knows i love HD, i can instantly see the extra colours and sharpness in a HD picture over SD, but there is absolutley no reason i would be mad for SSN in HD over the SD version, it isn't really one of those channels that benefit from it, My Samsung V+ seems to do a decent job of upscaling channels with little motion.

Feedback form to fill in and one question was have you moved to sky to obtain sky Atlantic and in fact there was a couple of questions regarding sky Atlantic, clearly even they are questioning the importance of sky Atlantic now being exclusive;)

Oh damn, that means no Sky1+1. Damn.

I really hope something else sky owns turns up just to prove you wrong cause you've been really adamant on this one.

I was caught by a Sky man in my shopping centre the other day, he was mentioning Sky Atlantic and I said "I'm unsure if I want a satellite dish on my house". His reply was "we'll it's not exclusive anymore, it will be available on a few other operators shortly, but your best price will always be with Sky"

Well, Sky want to launch Bravo, but don't want to do it without putting it on VM, so there is one reason that Sky may want to do a deal on Atlantic with VM.

So the statement you made can't be proved. Who knows what other things Sky need from VM and visa versa. Backhaul springs to mind as an example of a recent deal between VM and Sky.

Yeah, check MBs post the other day.

He said FOX+ and Disney HD were delayed for technical reasons presumably with the Netlix trial rollout.

I didnt say MB had confirmed it, I said he said that VM had confirmed;

"FOX+ and Disney HD have been delayed due to technical reasons"

that being VM confirming FOX+ and Disney HD.

No one truly knows who MB is, shrouded in mystery and folklore. Moving in the shadows like a cooling breeze on a summer night. An urban legend, people whisper his name in awe. All we really know is he lives in Motherwell with his mum.

He didn't confirm bud, just that rumour is they have both been delayed due to tech reasons.i have heard the same,vm priority at min is TiVo updates and Netflix.
The Disney rumour was first mentioned by Asian channels as being tested, but as I have said in previous post I was told in july that UPC channels we haven't got are planned to launch sometime in autumn. Please remember these are not confirmed just planned,I'm sure once confirmed mb will post details ;)

We have "viewer confirmed" rumours now, VM's role in this is now redundant. ;)
