The old rules had meeting 30% would trigger a mandatory bid for all remaining shares at the price the single share cost that hit 30%. The offer wouldnt of had to be accepted by remaining shareholders but it was used, could have been used as a way to pile pressure on.

It still piles the pressure on, it might not hold any leverage these days but it's significance won't be lost on usmanov, Stan, the board or the fans

Absolutely. I'm a firm believer he, Usmanov should have a seat on the board not only because he holds such a vast share in Arsenal and he is a serial investor but because Arsenals history proves it has taken many different heads to bond together to build what it is today.

 Please tell us of your days in Russia that witnessed all that you want to throw at Usmanov. We all know Russia is murky but I'd take caution against anyone attempting to stand on moral high on this subject.

Plenty of stories in the media about his shady dealings. No mud slinging from me, just stating the facts as I have read them previously. And he has never denied the claims either, which speaks volumes to me.

So you know nothing of the lawyers acting on behalf of him stopping slurs and making clear he was freed after there was political change in Russia. Or the fact he did deny all when speaking to The Guardian. Do you know of the power that was in place when Usmanov found himself caught up in something nasty? Please tell us of your days in Russia while all this was going on and not just some piece that just points out the charges and accusations he faced.

Anyway enough of that nonsense, I hope Ozil is fit to earn me double fantasy points this weekend. There's some interesting games this week as well. A simple 5 second video from the fourth official would have resolved this phantom goal. Oh how I love FIFA and the corrupt overpaid non footballing experienced pensioners running it.

Shows you the sportsmanship of the other team too. I'd have just walked off. Balls to FIFA fining me.

It'll take away the human elements of the game will it? What's human about Gareth Bale impersonating a salmon every time someone comes near him? Or that little Brazillian with the duster on his head doing his best rolling pin impression when somebody looks at him.

FIFA have a stance that basically tells us all its fine to cheat as long as you're not caught on the field. Basically if I've slept with another woman but haven't been caught in the act my missus can't hold it against me should she ever find out because of FIFA logic.

Again the ball was rolling the night Arsenal robbed Celtic of any hope of coming back...well specifically Eduardo. Typically though someone had to ruin it. Arsene Wenger of all people who claimed it was a disgrace Eduardo was banned for cheating.

Really in instances like this the player should own up. You can see him with his head in his hands when he missed, but then celebrating after the ref gives it. Its quite embarrassing on Kießlings part.

Are you saying, that as long as the person the comment was aimed at isn't offended, then the comments are ok?
The use of a variety of words were used over the years, "n" word etc.
And often it was said as an excuse, "he doesn't mind me calling him that, so it is ok".

And now, because it is Roy, the recently successful england manager, it should be ignored?

Did i not hear others shouting about suarez and his comments? Not meant as intended. Others seemed to take offence, when it was the perogative of the one offended.

And finally, I need to question Roy's judgement, that he did not even considered that it might offend. That is worrying for an adult over the age of 5. Just because the FA his employer backs him doesn't make it right.

You have to take in context. Players use a lot worse language and name-calling on the pitch. Probably not connected to race or skin colour as much (unless Chelsea are playing) but still pretty offensive. No I'm not saying it's right, just that it should be taken in context.

I agree. The context is that it was said by an england manager to a team of mixed race footballers, and he referred to the black player as a monkey.

And he didn't think it might cause offence? Really?

Russ 19-10-2013 09:36

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Yes, because he didn't mean 'monkey' in the way you think he did. This is what I mean, in context.

I'd agree his words were probably unwise considering the player is black but offensive? Not unless RH was suggesting he is/looks like a 'monkey'.

Yes, I agree that he probably didn't mean that, I just worry he couldn't spot the obvious bear trap.

I know in my job, i would be pulled up for some diversity training at minimum...and potentially worse.

And whilst some think it sounds "ok", because some black former players say it wasn't racist, they don't get to decide. Or would we go to them for every incident, and if they are in a favourable mood to the person cited, and they say it is ok.

No matter, just making a point. As i don't get to decide (except for myself). :)

That wouldn't be the angle I'm coming from. At a guess I reckon RH said it legitimately innocently as he is probably so far from racist it didn't occur to him, plus the team (and likely the FA) know him well enough to be sure he didn't mean it in a negative context.

My view is this story was only leaked in an attempt to get racism at the highest (footballing) level discussed in the media.

It's a penalty and a sending off. It's a shame Suarez had to dive though although non surprising. No doubt though as soon as you grab the shoulder your asking for trouble. I'm just annoyed how Suarez and his legs gave way from a touch of the shoulder. If the ref had anyconsistency we'd have seen Gerrard get his second yellow for a ridiculous block.

No what I'm saying is the player in question understood completely the analogy being made and he never said he doesn't mind him calling me that he said he took it as a compliment.

Just got back from game. Good result and some great goals but the team lacked urgency and a sense of cohesion for a large part of the game, after Flamini come off really. It does show how important he has been to our good run of form. Norwich commanded too much of the ball in our half of the pitch and we sat off them a bit too much giving them time and space although ultimately this wasn't what caused us to concede. Still Ozil and Ramsey stepped up to compensate.

Flaminis a boss, a real Rolls Royce and just proves we need to address our holding position. Arteta as good as he's been isnt Flamini quality. Frimpong isnt happening. There are options available to Arsenal in Khedira's situation at RM and Lars Bender's release clause kicking in after this season, under €15m  thats the deal to be had.

Jacks goal was something and Wenger highlighting the goal proves it wasnt just any type of goal, he doesnt normally single out goals.

I was underneath the scouse idiots that threw the flares at the Capital One (league cup) game recently. I can assure you I would not like to have it land on my head or in my lap. They don't need to hit anyone, people scrambling to get out of the way could easily be injured, a bunch of morons the lot of them. Sticking a flare up their arse would be a start.

They could still cause people to scatter and get injured, if one landed next to an adult who jumped out of the way and injured a small child it wouldn't matter if it was a flare or a smoke bomb.

When something fizzing and smoking flies at you the first thing you would do is jump out of the way, not think oh it's not a flare, it's 'only' a smoke bomb I'll let it hit me.

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news...atches-5744642 I think 10 years is extreme as well, but I suppose they have to start somewhere. And reading the article above, inhaling the smoke could cause some damage, especially if you have certain medical problems. But then you watch games in most other countries and they're going off all over the place!

It would be forgivable if Wenger sometimes finds himself dreaming about how Van Persie might have thrived in front of his current midfield but, in Giroud, an increasingly worthy replacement is emerging. Giroud provided the assist for two of Arsenal’s goals and, with Arsenal having failed in summer bids for Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suárez, it would seem that Giroud’s form is forcing Wenger to rethink his transfer priorities.

“Giroud is amazing,” Wenger said. “If you compare his technical level when he arrived to today, he is highly improved. I was thinking always his second season would be decisive. To adapt to the kind of game we play takes time. I was not too worried when we didn’t bring in anybody because I thought he has a chance to develop. We have a squad that, number and quality wise, is very, very good. We are not desperate now in January but, if there is a good opportunity, why not?”
