Mikel nears Chelsea
Controversial Nigerian soccer talent John Obi Mikel may finally be near his dream of playing for top English club Chelsea. Apparently sold by Oslo Lyn to Manchester United last year, a legal dispute has raged around him since.

According to Aftenposten's sources, the three clubs have come to an agreement, where Lyn and Manchester United will be compensated financially in order for Mikel to return to action, and for the club he has always favored.

It just goes to show contracts really do mean nothing, how did he get a work permit anyway?

Depends how many caps he has.

I think he has only got a couple of caps other wise United would have signed him two years ago after the under 17 championships.

AFAIK they had to wait till he was 18.

That would explain it then, I also noticed that he has not played since September, something that should prepare him for life at Chelsea.

Good documentary on Beckham tonight. Was a very interesting insight. He came across as pretty intelligent.

Was interesting seeing a press conference where he was asked about Arsenal. He said that "Arsenal are a great team, they have a great manager etc" he then mentioned that they were having a poor run of results. The headline in the paper the next day.. "Beckham taunts Arsenal".

Apparently a deal has been reached over Obi Mikel. Chelsea are paying £12mil for him, of which £10mil will be paid to Man Utd.

If enough people are interested, I could set up a cableforum league :D

Or Russ can use his superb modding skills, and he can do it. oops:

Raise hands now people. :D

I have set up a cableforum league, for the world cup. If anyone would like an invite to the mini league, please PM me your email address. I can then issue invites from the website. Anyone wishing to join in, can you make sure I know who you are, by making sure you identify yourself (as close as you can to your cableforum username) either by your team name, or yahoo id.

I see Sir Alex Ferguson is a sour **** after all! He obviously ****ed off that Rooney is now most likely to play football for England and he gets rid of the physio. Good one!

No he hasn't, Rob Swires is still there.

I take it you mean the doctor who has left? How do you know it was over Rooney?

Yeah the doctor. I wouldn't put it past the Scottish **** to do something like this. He pulled Giggs out of a Wales match too.

To do what? Sack him because he is healing Rooney too quickly?

Of course Man Utd will want to make sure he is totally fit before he goes to to the world cup. Do you think Sven will give a crap if playing him could aggravate his injury? Not when he's off after the world cup.

sherer 25-05-2006 14:56

Re: [Merged] The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season

speaking of Giggs he played in his first ever away friendly the other day when Wales play Euskadi and won 1-0

although as stated he is out of their next make against Trinidad and Tobago.. maybe he couldn't cope with facing two teams at once :)

Wanted: A manager. Must be vastly experienced but not a dinosaur, unblemished record ie no sackings, play passing football and be able to win games for an expectant fan base, sign players on a pittance and toe the board line. Looking to appoint ASAP, immediate start required.
Offers to N Doughty, c/o Nottingham Forest Football Club, The City Ground, Nottingham.

Re: [Merged] The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season

not a great performance by us last night but some of the players did well

Lennon had a great game and Cole and Owen got through ok too

At least Sven has now seen Walcott play although he touched the ball for less than 30 seconds so still can't really tell if he will be any good or not

Hargreaves was useless

feel sorry for Green but he was only the third choice keeper so all he really misses out on is a free trip to Germany and staying in a posh hotel

Agreed, but to be fair though, he was playing out of position, his best position is making the tea at half time for the rest of the squad.

We can take comfort from the fact that Hargreaves had a higher player rating than Ballack last season, which bodes very well for Chelsea next season :D
