Re: New Speeds - June 1st

I really hope they are going to massively upgrade the network, already in a lot of areas speeds hit less than 50k in the evenings.

Unlimited 10 meg will mean nothing unless it can be used.

Im happy that 2Mbps will become 4Mbps with more upload. 2Mbps just doesnt seem fast to me anymore!

trust me they have not used it yet. But they will. They did not go out and buy all that kit for it just to eat power ?

As long as the traffic shaping is only for peak hours, i don't think we can really complain too much. It should only really affect people who use P2P and newsgroups etc, and most of those download overnight anyway.

One thing though, about this new upgrade:
With the 4mb tier now having a 400k upstream, surely a lot of 10mb customers will just downgrade to it, as 4mb is still a very good speed, and the drop in upstream is minimal. Are ntl trying to push users off the higher tier, so the network can cope better?

more like the ppl on 10mb only getting 4/5mb WILL downgrade to it, as ppl on 10mb are on it coz they want the speeeeed?

ooo good move by ntl. I prefer having 4mb unlimited and not having to wach my usage :) Traffic shapping does seem likely but if its only in peak hours it wont bother me :D

Yes but the upstream on 10mbit being upgraded to 1mbit will lure people to stay on it.

That's probably true - but lets remember that the Guy from TW is now in charge and he has never been in favour of Caps, so It's no surprise to me that they have now been dumped.

There is no mention of an upstream increase for the 10meg service.

what about us 1mb users?

Hrm if I were a Telewest customer reading this I'd be wondering why my 10Mbit service has a derisory 384kbps upstream.

IMO both should have an upstream hike to at least 768kbps, preferably 1Mbps.
