Off topic posts removed/edited. Please remember this thread is about the 10 Mbps service. Further off topic posts will be subject to similar removal.

As for uncapped, that would be telling ;) , but I think you may be pleasently surprised. :D

Will we be pleasantly surprised with the upload speed Paul M? I'm personally hoping for at least 512k or more

(I know you can't and won't divulge, but one has to ask) :p:

it is believed that the upload will be in the region of 500k based on reports from those who's experienced temporary increases of their speed to 8meg-10meg.

Was i smoking somthing funny.. or are the 1 and 2 meg customers getting a upgrade to keep them happy until 10 meg?

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

The only indications of upload speed we have are 500K, it seems to be very hard to get any information on it, even from our 'sources'.

i think i remember reading in these forums some time ago
that if a few 3mb user of the same UBR
or something (thats whats it called?) utilise all their upload bandwidth at the same it will slow every1 down of that same UBR
as they dont have that much upload bandwidth

around a year or 2 ago i played alot of online games
and had alot of problems
customer support did some kinda area utilisation test or something
and it was like 95% at the time

i know NTL must have done some equipment upgrades for the last 2 years
but have they done enough to sustain a good service after these upgrades??

Time will tell. The cable channels are shared to the node, which is connected to the ubr. Apparently is 37mb on a channel, shared between 2-300 people (? how it would work in my village if everybody had taken up the service and was using it at the same time).

It would be very very slow! lolol
but NTL can do things if your node gets saturated. (not sure what but ive heard about them doing this at some university sites! )

Well the question is, some of us have saturation now, and ntl also have saturated peering points. These still remain so why do you think ntl will sort these out after 10mbit is rolled out if they wont now. Seems to be the general perception that a max "possible" speed of 10mbit is preffered to a stable lower max speed.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

It will be a problem if everyone wants their 75gig all on the same day. ;)
Personally i would settle for a steady lower speed, say 5meg, and not have to monitor what everyones downloading. :(

I phoned Tech Support today about something to do with my router and I asked the question about 10mbit.

Some guy just told me that he was given information today that 10mbit will be available from tomorrow, hope he is right! :)

As we now seem to be moving away from paying for speed to paying for volume of data, will NTL be charging if we go over the limit and, if so, will we be able to "bank" any unused volume?

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

@Simcut ;

According to our 'sources' the rollout of the 10Mbps will commence on Nov 8th, so yes, I believe he is right. :D

Rollover bandwidth, cool idea, bit like Orange (and I'm sure others do) with minutes, you have the next billing period to use the excess bandwidth or it is lost forever.
Additionally, will Broadband Plus usage be counted? Seems a bit tight to charge for high bandwidth content and charge again if you use the service? It is a point that has been raised a number of times, but so far answers have not appeared.
