I think I'll end up ordering openreach but I really want cityfibre which is still showing as planned. I need a short contract I think but that's still 18 months.

CityFibre say my location is...

It looks like you live on a private road.

You may need to gain permission before we can connect your property to our full fibre network. Find out more below.
Huh  I thought there were only two types of connectivity for hard wired connections, openreach and cable. Is CityFibre a totally different infrastructure?

Sounds like they think they need wayleave from the property or freehold owner. That would apply to any ISP

It would be more accurate to say Cable or FTTP, Openreach is just one FTTP provider.

Openreach own the infrastructure, Sky and others use the network. How are CityFibre creating their own network infrastructure?

Openreach is an fttp provider with their own cables and equipment that different companies can use, Cityfibre is the same as openreach but can offer greater speeds and maybe cheaper.

Openreach don't sell broadband. They just own the network right?

Do CityFibre own the lines they lay? Leasing back to openreach?

How ? By installing their own network and fibres.

Openreach are not the only ones installing FTTP networks, but they are the biggest.

I have FTTP service from Sky currently 150Mb. Usually pretty reliable. Our new build had FTTP installed from day 1.

I usually get 151Mbps over ethernet and 102Mbps over WiFi, upload is 32Mbps, just done a speed test and it's currently 32mbps on WiFi.

That's right and as Paul said, Openreach have their own network and City Fibre also does, it just happens that both got installed at the same time in my village, in fact it was City Fibre I noticed laying the infrastructure ducting first, so I'm wondering if Openreach are using Cityfibre underground ducts because Google suggests that City fibre is able to use Openreaches.

A great site for working out what is planned in your area.

They are all very similar, just cost and customer service.

I've used PlusNet since dialup days and just had another FTTP circuit installed elsewhere and cannot fault them, they are reasonably priced, UK based call centre if needed. Had very few issues with them in nearly 25 years of been a customer, the issues I've had were exchanged based and out of their control on my ADSL connection.

Thanks I've just checked and that's available so they will be on the Openreach network, I guess there are alot more companies available that also aren't on the bidb site list.

Still trying to hold out to see if they switch on the new Cityfibre network, hoping I'm not waiting too long.

Waiting on Netomnia here, its still in the planning stage atm, so I guess it will be a while.
In the meantime, I'll just stay where I am.

Not heard of them before I'm guessing it's got it's own network.

I've never not known anyone not to be available via the Openreach network, not sure if they still are but Virgin Media was available at one point as an ADSL connection on OpenReach network but that might not be the case anymore.

Netomnia is gaining momentum, not sure on them as they are not available locally so no experience. ISP Review website is a good place for the latest information when it comes to ISP these days.
