It might be that the follow up drug tests were below the legal limits to make the drug driving charge stick. There are two parts to drug driving- driving with drugs in your system and driving while impaired.

 there's a legal amount of drugs you can have in your system whilst driving? When did this happen

If PTSD is going to be used as a defence, this could open up a whole world of issues going forward. PTSD could be used as a mitigation by pretty much any crime committed by a refugee
Mitigation isn't a defence, it may reduce the sentence but it doesn't absolve you of guilt and it won't prevent prison sentence

It’s the same as for alcohol, the idea being how much needs to be present to impair driving. Here is a list of the limits - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi...2/regulation/2 Note that the drug driving list covers both prescription and illegal drugs. Diazepam or methadone will not help your driving skills even though being perfectly legal

The accusation is that he did it deliberately. Pleading ‘not guilty’ doesn’t mean he’s going to say he wasn’t driving the car.

He seemingly spotted a way to get onto the (blocked) road he wanted, then found himself surrounded by football supporters that weren't too happy about it.

Personally I'd say his trousers were about to fill with brown stuff and he wanted away as quick as.

Paul Doyle, 54, is jailed for 21 and a half years for driving into crowds at the Liverpool Premier League victory parade last May.

SkySportsNews Geraint Hughes, He'll serve 2/3 before being considered for release

I think 21 years is a little excessive.

A life sentence for murder is 25-30 years.

Manslaughter is usually around 10 years.

No one was killed…..

It's the sheer amount of people he ran over and injured. It's very lucky people weren't killed.

“Weren’t killed” being the operative.

I am in no way defending his actions.

But there have been much lesser sentences for people that have actually killed people, especially in car related incidents.

As always sentencing is never really consistant.

And why 21 years and 6 months ? Is 6 months really going to make a difference.

He would be 75 by then, if he's still even alive.

I thought it was a tad severe until I saw the videos of his driving. Stuff him.

Caught some of it on BBC news. It was enough. I imagine the stuff in court showed even more.
