Looks like at least two near to me are converting to Poundland.

Yes but nothing yet appears to have been decided for what I'd have said are decent spaces - the one in Carlton Square, which is a decent size with good accessibility and parking, and likewise Arnold (which used to be Sainsburys) which even has its own car park on top of the store. The Beeston one for example, which is on the announcement, is similar but I'd have said the others should be snapped up ahead of it?

Well, as yet we dont know what stores B&M have grabbed.

There is a Wilko at Giltbrook (Ikea Retail Park) - you would think someone would want that, its a very busy shopping park.

Difficult to see a future for Arnold, with a Poundland branch being next door already, and B&M having a branch nearby in Daybrook. Pity really, as it’s always been a good place to park - even when it was Sainsbury’s.

Maybe Aldi might be interested?

I wandered into our local large branch and saw that everything was a third off. I noticed some gardening stuff I often bought. It was tagged at around 50% more than I paid just a few months ago? Inflation? Or a con?

Probably a bit of both. The liquidators won’t want there to be an absolute fire sale. They will know people will go in and buy stuff on the assumption all the prices have been slashed, mostly without bothering to check too closely, so they can make their job a bit easier by fleecing unwary bargain hunters before finally getting shut of the remnants to clearance specialists, where it will be showing up on eBay for years to come (I used to get replacement bulbs for a lovely Christmas tree light set I got in Woolworths a couple of years before it went under. So nice I was prepared to spend almost as much on new incandescent bulbs over the next few years as I would have spent on one LED set).

Inflation most definitely is a thing, and prices have gone up never to come down again, but I think here again some retailers have been extracting the urine and just seeing how much more they can get for their wares.

Tomorrow our local Wilko is due to close, I will be going there to see what bargains, if any, are available. Wallpaper is on our list, we shall see if the visit to them was worth it. Keep you posted.
