If only we knew of such an organism, I fear that even if such an organism existed we'd just exploit and harvest it for our own short term needs and greed, might be best we don't find this mysterious mythical lifeform for their sake

So in that case why are we not taking trees up to the moon and planting them there?

You can achieve the same oxygenating effect with tanks of algae much as happened on the early Earth when the atmosphere had little or no Oxygen.

Easier than trying to grow a tree on the moon.

Ummm, your kidding, right ?

There is no CO2, or indeed any atmosphere of any sort, on the moon.

There's a lot of frozen CO2 on the moon

I'm sure there is, just like there is a lot of frozen water on Mars.

Neither is of much use, frozen.

No chance, my feet are staying firmly on terra firma, being very claustrophobic the very thought of being strapped/trapped in any conveyance for days or weeks traveling to the moon is completely alien to me.

I've changed my mind since earlier in the thread, i'd go.
It's got to be an improvement on the UK in 2022. :)

Good point.

But would the moon be part of the EU?!!

I think the idea of "the tree" was to convert CO2 produced by people back to O2 rather than seeding the moon because as pointed out there is no appreciable atmosphere there of any sort. But trees and other plants use O2 at night when there is no sunlight so algae in tanks in permanent sunlight maybe the solution, could also use the algae for protein source maybe.

I still wouldn't go.

Just thinking in a slightly crazy way here but if we managed to hollow out the moon then maybe we could live inside it. A bit like a huge bottle. We'd fill it with Oxygen and then put a lid on it.

Even more claustrophobic lol.

Even more claustrophobic lol.

Already been done by the Clangers. They used dustbin lids on the crater entrances. They seemed happy enough I must say :)
