Then why is Openreach have G.Fast 50Mbps upload then? Surely Virgin Media would love to beat that!

So now you're back with VM, yet you're whinging already?

You know the package you signed up for, so you must be happy with it?

Or are we back to square one again with you?

I think you should cancel VM and sign up to G.Fast then leave us again. ;) /s

What other "national" provider offers more than 50Mb upstream currently?

As for D3.1 dates, you all know I cant tell you ;)

Oh...yeah, it is not a national provider, or maybe it is, I dunno.

Since Google Fiber came out though loads of places have been offering those gig up and down speeds...the UK, has hyperoptic:

https://www.hyperoptic.com/?gclid=EA...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Obviously nobody is going to offset living where they are to get it as it is only available to multi property complexes / places (like large flats and housing complexes) and is not worth the offset - unless you already happen to live in one.

Unless I am interpreting that all incorrectly, in which case please accept my apologies in advance. :)

Beacuse it is only available to a very small portion of the UK so there is no need for VM to try and match or beat it.

You really don't need an upload that fast though. I left VM 2 years ago and have been happy with Sky Fibre 38Mpbs and the upload speed has been fine.

I would like a bigger upload speed, and would pay a [reasonably] higher price for it.

Are you sure you don't mean this one Chloe, it should fit Telford's needs to a "T".

I know this is the summer silly season, but, in this thread, can we not learn the lessons of the rise of Donald Trump and Boris Johnson? Give narcissists the attention and oxygen they crave if you want them to stick around.

Yeah I remember you saying as much before ; you were basically the person I was thinking about. But yes, not worth the offset of living in like a social housing complex.

The only other company I know that offers similar in the UK is Gigaclear but as I understand it, their requirements are pretty much the same:

https://www.gigaclear.com/postcode-checker/

(I doubt that you area would be accepting orders, but you never know). As I understand it, enough folks in once place need to show interest, and if they do then one of the two companies will send someone out to install and if they pick up like 10 to 13 customers per install they generally break even on the costs of install. (For that place).

Gigaclears plans are more expensive than Hyperoptic, though:

https://www.gigaclear.com/our-broadb...ucts/for-home/

I wouldn't say some of the latter prices like Home ULTRA are cost effective ; 76 a month even with the vat back is a lot and all the installation costs are a lot to soak up.

Soon enough (in the next year or two to come) some of those companies may start expanding into residential but other than that mot will wait for the cap of 20 or 50 for up to be broken and rely on the rollout of 5G to take care of mobile.

It looks like a tiresome 6 to 18 months in the mean time, though.

Curt was thinking that you might need a lot more for up (like a gig up) so I figured that Giga would be better as they generally are more spread out in the big cities than Hyperoptic, and don't seem to have quite a North / South divide. Their customer service seems reasonable, too. The cost does seem pretty high though, even if you are eligible.

Hope that helps.

Don't worry, Openreach are gearing up to push FTTP further into their network, all new builds of 30 or more already qualify and have for nearly 2 yrs. as for the rest you're looking at 2025-2030 before you see a significant footprint.

Have Open Reach put a timeline on it? Everything I am told is that nothing will be available at improved speeds before the end of this decade.

Here's the ISP review of the 2020 roll out, I'll find the 2030 one later when I get back (have to go out)

I love BoJo, I wanted him to be PM after David Cameron and I hope he gets in next time. We'll all be better off for it.
