The one we use most on the Sony is the Media Player. Mostly from the USB attached HDD but it does support NAS and other PCs on the network. Has a good range of codecs and containers.

Can anybody tell us how we can solve a problem in that a message that comes up several times a day on our LG Smart TV saying its going to turn itself off in 5 minutes?.

That sounds like an inactivity standby. You should be able to find in the settings, a way of varying the time, or switching it off altogether.

Sounds like some kind of power saving mode, my works LG monitor does the same, there must be an option to change that.

We have the LG43 UH750. We solved it by; Settings/All Settings/General/Eco Mode/Auto Power Off/Set to off. Ours was set at 4 hours.
