Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
First set of post-Brexit polls but support for Scottish Independence at 59%. Probably indicating some of the difficulty the SNP will have as that number is likely to come down. The question is what continues to happen in the aftermath and if Sturgeon gets any suggestion from the EU that they could stay.
If she got assurances Scotland would be admitted under the UK terms and gave notice of her intention to call a referendum upon the triggering of Article 50 then things could get interesting. |

I would assume Scotland wouldn't meet the criteria for joining?

On the EU and currency issues, it could go two ways: 1. Scotland votes to leave the UK and Scotland becomes a independent nation. Under this scenario, Scotland would have to negotiate to join the EU from scratch. Until then they would use the pound but I doubt the Bank of England would underwrite that.... so could get very messy. And besides, Spain has already indicated it would veto any attempt by Scotland to join the EU as its worried about its own backyard and regions breaking away. 2. The UK (as a whole) agrees to split into two parts, like Czechoslovakia did. Scotland being one part and the rest of the UK being the other part. Under this scenario, as the old UK was still in the EU, Scotland would state that they wished to remain in the EU. Whether the rest of the UK agrees to this is another matter entirely. How amenable England would be to Scotland in the event of a breakup of the UK is key? Zero, I think. They would have to adopt the euro as again the BoE would not underwrite Scottish debt. ---------- Post added at 02:20 ---------- Previous post was at 02:16 ---------- Quote:

All the EU stuff would be eclipsed in a second by Scotland going independent. Imagine the mess of de tangling a country that has been politically united for 300 years and culturally for far longer. Maybe then 'even the English' will be better than sweet FA as a completely independent nobody, with no crutch needed to support them. |
Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
This is a worrying time. I just hope SHE does not get her way, I don't think Scotland wants to lose the £ ghis may help us.

Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
Isn't this all hot air? I have not heard of any existing legal statute that can be used to force a second Scottish vote.
If there isn't a case in law and since the law for such an instrument is made in Westminster then this is all pointless, right? Scotland may want to stay in the EU and may want to leave the UK but wanting and getting are two different things. |
Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
My granddad was a proud Scot, but was happy to serve for King and country.
He would call Sturgeon a traitor. |
Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
Let Scotland have independence , let them remain in the EU, I'm sure the EU can't wait to replace the money Scotland gets from the Barnett Formula... In excess of £10'000 per person in Scotland.

Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
The title of this thread must surely, for accuracy, be changed to:
Second Scotland Referendum highly likely, as long as it looks like they'll will win, otherwise it may take a while and they wll wait, by which time the EU may have dissolved and their argument will no longer exist, and finally they may just shut the f*** up. Could you sort that out please. ---------- Post added at 21:37 ---------- Previous post was at 21:35 ---------- Quote:

Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
What I don't get is Scotland didn't want to be ruled by Westminster hence the first vote. So why have a 2nd vote to be ruled by the EU it doesn't make sense
That women has her own agenda and that doesn't inc the Scottish people |

Re: Second Scotland Referendum 'Highly Likely'
IF Nicola got her way. Scotland will be bankrupt within 12 months. Can Scotland afford the millions that Brussels want PER WEEK.
There was talk that Scotland could survive on the revenue from North Sea oil. There ONLY income l believe. Nicola, is in dreamland as far as l am concerned. I am married to a Scot. I do work for some Scots, and wont accept Scottish currency. As some shops wont accept Irish money either The Scottish people, and they are brilliant. Made there decision. and therefore are the control of the Government in London. |

They give the impression of being left leaning, whereas in fact they are far right. What they have kept control of, the "agenda" as you put it, is what they're about, and that is a hatred of England. It's break off from England, no matter what, is their agenda. The Scots voted for the SNP, that is their right and they'll have to live by that decision. I have always thought of the Scots as my people, because they were. Now, I don't. I think they're foreign, alien thinking to us and I hope they all **** off. Salmond wins. Bring on the wall....! |

While oil is their biggest income they do also have quite an affective financial sector. IF Scotland leaves the UK AND IF they retain EU membership AND IF the RUK pull out of the EU without a free-trade agreement including services i could see much of the city moving to Scotland. If i were Nicola the first people i would be talking to would be CEOs at HSBC, BARCLAYS, CITI etc |
