I agree , played about an hour earlier and found it to a be boring linear multiplayer and the lad I was playing with agreed , are there going to be vehicles in the full release multiplayer ? , what's more I LOVE Star Wars so pretty disappointed tbh.

To add to that the graphics look pretty blurry on xb1 also !!

It is 720p on the X1 and 900p on the PS4, i still thought it looked and played great on the X1 though, the resolution near crossed my mind.

I thought it was supposed to be 900p on xb1 , 1080 on ps4 , not that it makes a difference to gameplay anyway.

Resolution really didn't come in to it, I think it looks stunning!

Will give it a go now, resolution doesn't appear to be an issue here

I've just had a fun couple of hours on it. Definitely getting this next month!

Walker Assault is great. Chaotic, but great. Same basic objective as Drop Zone (which is also fun), but with more players, on a bigger map, with vehicle power ups, and an additional objective.

I managed to fly a TIE, an A-Wing, and a Snowspeeder. I crashed my Snowspeeder though when trying to shoot the cable at the AT-AT legs!

Bulky - Did you not try Walker Assault?

No , played the one where you capture the pods. Will give it a go tonight as that sounds much more fun :)

Yeah graphics don't normally come into it with me ,I think I only noticed it as I wasn't enjoying playing, just looks a bit blurry IMO. I've been hammering gears of war ultimate edition and I think the move from real tactical team gameplay and then going onto that just reminded me of everything I hate about COD, point shoot kill , point shoot kill , rinse , repeat. Gears has a huge skill element to it IMO. Walker assault sounds much more appealing though :)

Curious. Since it's based off Battlefield and that frequently gets praise for being among the best in multiplayer gameplay in the FPS arena.

Just downloading the PC beta now (over 10GB) - probably won't play today, as I am very jet-lagged, and the combination of that and being old with carp reflexes might lessen my enjoyment.... :D

I wish it was based off battlefield but the game play and such suggest the exact opposite. After the outcry of a battlefield game with a star wars skin, myself included. I'd actually take that right now, I'd agree with him, I'm no super star wars fan but I loved Battlefront 2, Jedi outcast and so on, but he's right, it looks good but the game play just feels absolutely horrible. You'd think they'd carry the best bits of battlefield over bit they really haven't.

This is a beta too so we're long past the proper development stage.

I'm glad it's not just me though. Seems to be mixed all round.

People are going to need a lot of drive space for updates if/when games are updated to take advantage of DX12.

Just a random thought - I wonder if it would ever be possible to have cross-platform servers? Any technical reason why it's not possible, or purely commercial ones?

Eh, not really. Codepath changes means some extra bits in the engine but none of the game assets are going to get any bigger.

No technical reason at all. Cross-platform servers have been around for decades. It's purely... well not necessarily commercial. Many people still argue keyboard + mouse gives unfair advantage over console controllers.

I said to take advantage of it in existing games. Performance improvements mean they can use better quality assets, increase native resolution, etc, etc. Without those the only benefit is increased frame rates and given most of the games are locked and it won't give enough to go from 30 to 60fps that wouldn't do much.

Re: Star Wars Battlefront (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

DX12 isn't going to magically make all games perform faster or look better. It certainly won't do anything to change things like Titanfall's 40GB of audio.

The main bottleneck it alleviates is draw calls and compute, neither of which use more space when you scale them up. In games where there's hundreds of thousands of things on screen at once (think Cities Skylines) it'll increase performance drastically but since all those items are just duplicates of each other the game itself isn't going to get any bigger.

The thing that takes most space in modern games is probably textures and they aren't usually performance limiting nor will DX12 allow any real improvements in them.

There were much more quality-enhancing changes between DX9 and DX10 yet DX10 updates for existing games only increased the size of those games by single digit to low double-digit percentages.
