Re: Why is there no 2TB Tivo?
I simply don't see the point in recording material that you can't possibly ever get round to watching.

I have a 500GB and it is never more than 25% used and that is when I have a series of films saved.

I do accept that there are those (how many I have no idea) for whom a 500GB is ample. But there are many others at the other end of the scale who would find a 2TB box very helpful. I don't only record programmes that I want to see, but also for my wife, for both of us and for our Grandkids, too. There must surely be a lot of people in a similar position. |
Re: Why is there no 2TB Tivo?
I see a clear need for a 2TB Tivo based on today’s VM services. My family tend to watch a few series at a time but sometimes we want to record more series than those we happen to be watching weekly. So on that basis the backlog builds up and once with my 1TB Tivo I did reach maximum capacity and had to stop recording one series.
The trouble with on demand is that it does not necessarily have all episodes and keeps them for a long time. Sometimes we are watching series which were recorded over 6 months ago when the rate of weekly series recording reduces (at the moment we are only at 15% storage so we have caught up with our backlog). There are also some recordings I want to keep and watch again in the future so use the Tivo drive for that. The problem of backlog recordings also gets worse the more people you have in the house watching different things. The ideal answer to this is to not go to a 1TB box but offer cloud based storage which I know has been mentioned by VM for future plans. |

Many different things being recorded on our 1TB disc too - two adults and three teenagers. Frequently hit 100% - so what? It will just delete the oldest stuff and if it hasn't been watched by whoever wanted it recorded - well they had a reasonable chance to do so. We do occasionally flag something for keeps, but most of the time we just let Tivo do its thing. A 2TB disc may be useful for us, but it would soon be at 100% full anyway.

Re: Why is there no 2TB Tivo?
On those Virgin Media Tivo boxes is it possible to attach a stand alone DVD recorder to them?

Um if it is not to complex to answer... how??

Re: Why is there no 2TB Tivo?
Attach the scart output of the TV (which stays active even when viewing via HDMI, unlike early V+s) to a scart input on the DVD recorder. Set the DVD recorder to record from the scart input (usually AV1 or AV2), and play back the recording on your Tivo.
Unfortunately, unlike the V+, the Tivo does not have any special support for archiving recordings, so you won't be able to watch anything else on the Tivo while it is recording. |
