We currently believe this change will result in a reduction in Virgin Media's revenue, OCF and operating income of approximately $47 to $50 million from the effective date of May 1, 2014 through the end of 2014. However, in light of our strong Q1 OCF performance, we remain confident in our ability to deliver mid-single digit rebased OCF growth at Virgin Media in 2014.

Looks like a lot of the subscriber growth was driven by Belgium, Germany and the UK.

Looking good. In planning we have been getting a lot more new business installs and we are still working flat out with the BB fibre upgrades and node splits. :)

For all the grief we give them, they're not the worst ISP these days, are they.

I wonder if this covers it:

As compared to our subscriber base at December 31, 2013, our RGUs increased by 370,000 during the first quarter of 2014, resulting from 345,000 organic RGU additions and two small in-market acquisitions in the U.K. and Austria.

At least you don't have 2 sets of line rental to pay to get the kind of speeds you do. :erm:

You have no idea how much I wish I'd bought VMED shares when they were bottoming out. A lot of staff on sharesave / share purchase plans made obscene amounts of money.

Also worth viewing the separate VM figures which are now available. These confirm that the company now passes an extra 95,000 homes (presumably due to Smallworld) and has gained 6,000 Smallworld customers. These figures illustrate the very small size of that acquisition. http://www.libertyglobal.com/pdf/pre...ease-FINAL.pdf

The Guardian states they added 15,000 television subscribers are the Smallworld additions with tv included in this figure ?

Re: Liberty Global to reveal 1st Quarter Results on May 6th.

The media is starting to report VM's results. Here's The Guardian's take "Virgin Media returns to revenue growth with 15,000 new TV customers.* Virgin also adds more than 40,000 broadband subscribers, marking return to form after acquisition by Liberty Global."
http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...mers-broadband
* I'm not sure where the 15,000 figure (and 40,000 figure) come from. In Q1, VM said it lost 4,700 TV customers v Q1 last year. Have VM just reported the number of organic new customers and assumed they were all TV customers?

Looks like the story will be that VM was distracted by the merger but is now back on course and growing.

The figures in the VM Q1 release are as follows. These are for services (called RGUs) not customers. On average, each customer has 2.5 RGUs ie each customer takes 2.5 services from VM.

Net additions Q1 2014.
TV (4,700) In brackets as number of RGUs decreased
Internet 34,800
Phone 4,800
Total RGU net organic 34,900
Smallworld 14,700
Total RGU net additions 49,600 so nearly 50,000 extra services sold in Q1 v previous quarter

In terms of new customers VM gained 15,200 organically and a further 6,000 by buying Smallworld.

Think small world was 45k homes passed with the other 45 coming from in fill projects, Sirius May be able to confirm

Those are pretty good figures seeing Sky has twice as many customers.

I think the low penetration was why they wanted it as Virgin typically has 40%
Penetration in areas it operates and clearly Smallworld is a lot lower so lots of opportunity for a relatively modest outlay.

All good news though need to see what the markets make of the results.

There is a lot of pressure on us to grow the residential side by in fill. I see surveyors out every day looking at estates that have been built since the main build stopped. If they are viable we plan them and they get built.

Virgin Media sales are a bit flat under the Cable Cowboy's reign

Quote:

Virgin Media has been part of Cable Cowboy John Malone's Liberty Global family for almost a year now. Yet the takeover hasn't boosted the UK telco's flat first quarter sales, which the City was told about this morning.

Although growth in consumer and mobile revenue had rose, overall sales climbed a slender 0.1 per cent, to £1.044bn, compared with the £1.042bn the company posted for the same period a year ago.
Quote:

The ISP no longer breaks out its net income and profit figures now that it is part of Liberty Global, which noted that VM's bottom line would be hit by a change in UK law for charging VAT in connection with prompt payment discounts.
