I think they're playing Scotty's game (star Trek), gives massive estimate of long the job will take( I canna defy the laws of physics captain), and then does it in half the time, makes him look like a miracle worker;)

Let's all come down to earth. Cynically.

The free upgrade was timed exactly to coincide with the BT Infinity free speed hike. It was pure "mine is bigger than yours" - the game VM constantly like to play. And that plays with your minds. You all (I don't really mean all but you know what I mean) want this free upgrade. They bring Usain Bolt to point to the month when your area is in the mox (carefully not saying that's when it's being delivered).

When the hype is over, upgrades have been made to an evidential level, VM can then let the truth out quietly; something they've always known that many old infrastructure areas will take a lot loger to roll out.

IMO, what's worse is that they're doubling the speeds at all. By all means double the infrastructure. We might actually get the originally contracted speeds. Otherwise, with double speeds, we'll be where we were before (some good, some remaining bad).

But still VM will be the fastest in the land and they'll hype this into further over-utilisation.

My area was due in July 2012, so are they telling me they only realised in July 2012 that it would now only be upgraded in November or December. What happens when November comes along, another delay.
Seems to me they are playing a game here, promise double speeds because there is now fibre competition, keep your existing customers on the promise, BUT then fail to even try to deliver to the promise.

What now - do they hope I will hang around until November to see if that is another hollow promise, taking my money every month of course, but failing to provide the speed to me that new customer get for the same money.

Shameful.

I called VM and explained I was not happy about the delay or the fact that new customers can get 60MB in my area for the money as I pay. They upgraded me to 60MB there and then. Done!

Mine was July 2012 now it says:

Your speed upgrade is going
to take a little longer
We estimate your area will be ready between:
December 2012 and May 2013

RS Set data for FTTC is Dec 2012 in my area with the cabs being fitted at the moment... Thanks Virgin you have made my mind up to leave this over subscribed network in Dec/Jan :D :D

Sigh! Instead of October 2012 -April 2013 it's now March 2013 onwards.:(

Just checked my account (wasn't expecting anyting until October because that's what Usain said) and apparently I can upgrade from 20 to 60 now.

If I take this route will I be forced in to a new (12/18mth) contract ?

If there is a new contract, will there come a time when a non-contract upgrade will be offered ?

When it's upgraded automatically it doesn't put you into a new contract I believe.

If you upgrade your speed automatically or pay for a higher tier you do not enter a new contract, however, if you move onto the new Collections then you do start a new 12 month contract, but there will probably be a cost saving to go with it.

It's the absolute worst thing about VM, their ridiculous pricing structure which is really hard to get to grips with. I am paying £41 per month for 50mb broadband, the basic telephone package (never used) and the basic (never used and disconnected) TV package which is basically only free tv stuff. I have a superhub that can only be used in modem mode. If I was getting 100mb at that price it would not be an issue but as I am on 50mb I am not a happy customer!

I was the same last month so I rang retentions to squeeze a better deal.. They gave me a free upgrade to 100mb+line rental for £35. :D

The problem I have there are people n xl20 paying more for broadband than folk on large30. XXL customers paying more than folk on xl60. If they can't do th upgrades then folk should be auto re-tiered to the level below, especially xl20

Yup - I changed to Premiere on Saturday; new 12 month contract, but doubled to 60Mb with a saving of £11 per month. :D

That would be me, I'm paying £21.50 for xl20 + £13.90 basic phone which is £3 more than current xl60+basic phone price.

I'm kinda reluctant to move away from my excellent ntl250 modem + linksys router combo to the superhub. Is it possible to move down a tier and keep my current setup or would they force me on docsis 3 gear ?
