I've just found out that the Glastonbury festival has been cancelled this due to the lack of portaloos  so for those looking for alternatives to the Olympics ...bad luck

Apparently it was announced back in 2010 so this may be old news for some

It is amazing how much regular stuff has been cancelled due to the olympics. For something that has often been promoted as a boost to the economy, I wonder whether that has taken into account the money lost from such cancellations.

Glastonbury always takes a year off - they are actually over due one going on their previous breaks (91/96/01/06).

Yup ,i would have thought that it would make sense to move some of the bigger events to make the most of the Olympic visitors

Yeah i did notice that in my link ,but i still think to have Glastonbury on either just before or just after the Olympics would have been better given the amount of new visitors that will be coming to the UK for the first time

Doubt many vistors would get in. It tends to sell out really fast to people who have long planned to go and are ready to get tickets. It would be an afterthought at best for tourists.

Arsenal's Pre-season Friendly tournament has been cancelled due to the Olympics as well. Makes sense that, where we can, we focus on the Olympics.

The money could have been better spent elsewhere.

Yes. And so could any money spent on anything we (as individuals) don't like. But that's not the point :)

Personally i have no interest at all in the olympics and yes i am very bored of all the hype. But that said there are far more people that are looking forward to it and i hope for them it turns out to be a great games.

The worlds greatest sporting events are coming to this country, bringing with it thousands of tourists who will come from over the planet, waiting to spend, spend, spend. May be come back.

Many will just watch the games, other will explore this great country.

I think we have underhyped it.

I too am bored with all this hype. It's a bit of sport that is going to cripple us financially. Money we can find better uses for.

For those saying it's a once a life time event, so was the bombing of London in WW2 and that wasn't something to celebrate either.

Still it keeps Lord Cole in a job.

Ah, well" the pessimists will always moan about something and the Olympics just seem to be next in the firing line.

Your right Den, personally i think its a fantastic event that will bring in visitors from around the world who will spend money and enjoy themselves, and afterwards the site will provide housing and a new football stadium for a team, and leave a legacy that part of East London has been redeveloped and re-invigorated perosnally i think it has been undersold mate.

One of the greatest sporting events here in my lifetime.:)
