Tivo seems to have a restriction on what IP addresses it'll run on (which is wierd as see above multiroom doesn't have that restriction) and whinges constantly... so Tivo will need to be in its own private LAN once I find out what the limits of the restriction is. Will do that this evening.

What IP range and Subnet range you trying to use?

I don't think IP addresses have anything to do with it. As long as you set the router correctly (DHCP does most of the work) then TiVo Commander is fast and mostly flawless. Make sure to use the Custom Settings part of the app and manually enter IP/MAK/TSN details because it won't auto-detect, though.

Re: 15.2 update

It does. Tivo starts by sending a message saying something about using duplicate IPs (they're not - that's a bug), then when you try to tell it to try again it just barfs. Even forcing setting an IP manually.. same result.

OTOH multiroom continues to work fine.. so it's mostly a UI issue, but it stops the phone apps working.

I'll isolate the tivos onto their own LAN and experiment. Wireshark might reveal something.

Interesting... maybe I didn't get a problem because my network is class A style, which is 10.x.x.x where I'm just using 10.0.0.x with the default subnet mask. TiVo's internal modem has a 10.76.x.x address, at least on my box.

Re: 15.2 update

I cannot get TIVO Commander to work at all. I have tried everything, but it still keeps saying "could not connect, check Host and port settings" then "no results found". This is what i done,
in "custom settings" i added;

IP address-this was the ethernet IP address(starting 169....), not the cable modem IP address(starting 10.....)

Media Access Key

TSN- 15 digits, no hashes. using "zeroes" and not the letter "O"

enabled network remote

re-connected to Virgin

is there anything else I need to do?

EDIT- I think my network cable may be the culprit, it has a bit of a split in it, will get another and try again later
EDIT- got it working, network cable was goosed, but found another in loft. all working now.

Bad(ish): Multiroom works, but every programme is restricted - even BBC ones! So not useful except to see what's on the other tivo and maybe delete it.

I use 172.16.x.x on my home network and it moans about that, but I can still ping it and control it from the Peanut iPhone app.

Multi room streaming hasn't actually been properly activated yet.

Home -> Help & Settings -> Parental Controls (enter PIN) -> Request a PIN to Watch Recordings -> Do not request a PIN

That should do it.

Yes there are an awful lot of menus and options on these things aren't there? Trust me, I still get lost remembering where various settings are even after a few months of ownership!

On the "info" button upgrade, all it does is exactly what the "R" button did anyway. If you scroll in the mini guide and highlight a programme set to record, it does not give any information about the programme. All I get is "This episode is already scheduled to record as follows". I thought the upgrade was meant to make the "info" button show the same information as it did before, but for future programmes as well as for the current programme? Not as good as I was expecting, and not as good as the V + EPG!

Well it does for me if you press info button on any programme in either main or mini EPG, not actually done that yet for a programme alreday set to record, I would try pressing OK button instead and see if it brings up programme information.

As for V+ EPG, Tivo is far better (when it is actually right of course!), with options to explore the show, find other episodes, look at actors, You Tube, etc. You can really dive down into a programme like this.

In one case I had, it was particularly convenient for finding the first episode of "American Horry Story" which I missed, set up a series link from episode 2 onwards but I could explore all episodes, then select the 1st and option to watch it, which took may straight to the On Demand episode. Now that is convenience I like!
