Re: Unable to view recordings from Sky-owned channels with no subscription

I don`t agree with this at all but the simple answer is to transfer any recordings you wish to keep or view at a later date is to transfer the recording onto a disc or video tape. Having said that some programs, sky movies for example, have encoded enscription which prevents a copy being made. Another thing I disagree with is the fact that sky `switch` off your recording ability on your sky+ box if you cancell your subscription. This for me is rather mean bearing in mind you can get freesat boxes to record channels. I believe virgin do the same although a little different there as virgin take their boxes back.

Re: Unable to view recordings from Sky-owned channels with no subscription

This is standard practice for Sky, as my parents found out recently after being given discounted Sky Movies for a month when taking a new HD box. They "taped" a few films they fancied watching, didn't have the time to watch them and thought they'll watch them later. Sky movies sub ended, and the films became inaccessible.

Let's just get this straight - this is the work of an absolute money minded corporation who are not interested in customer satisfaction. VM have the right model - if you've taped it during the period of subscription and stored it on an encrypted device - there's no-one else on the planet would deny you the right to watch it later, at your convenience.

If Sky think people will simply pick up the phone and re-subscribe, they're very much mistaken. This kind of business ethic has the complete opposite effect - people will be discouraged from giving them more of their hard earned money.

"Sky. Believe in better"? Believe in money...

If you subscribed to Lovefilm for a few months then cancelled would they let you keep the disc until you had time to watch it. ;)

I have to say that you should be able to watch the stuff you recorded when you were a subscriber to those channels. In the old VHS days you would of been able to. Quite right not to be able to record whats on when you're not subscribing. I'm guessing its Sky behind this in their usual gready penny pinching way. I believe in fair play and always thought the Sky+ system to be unfair as if you were a subscriber when you recorded it you should be able to watch it.

It's only for Sky owned channels and Sky have requested this. All other channels are unaffected.

I didn't realise that

Will any content be deleted from your Box or is it that you just won't be able to play the content

And if you take the channels again at a later date will those old recordings be activated again......... Just curious, dose anyone know the answer to that please?

Seeing as the disc is their physical property, and their business model relies on them being able to re-lend it to multiple customers one after another ... Probably not.

Analogy fail ... Sorry. ;)

'Broadcast rights' and 'physical ownership' are quite different things. Your analogy doesn't work because it's not comparing like with like.

Thanks for that factually incorrect statement , I wasn't aware as a Lovefilm subscriber I physically owned the disc ;) 9.99 a month for as many discs as I can have PHYSICAL OWNERSHIP of sounds good ;)

Crumbs, you're excelling yourself at getting the wrong end of the stick this morning ... and beating yourself round the head with it ...

LOVEFILM physically owns the disk. Therefore it's a complete no-brainer that LOVEFILM will want it back - their business model fails if they don't get it back because they will then not be able to re-lend it.

You asked whether LOVEFILM would be happy for someone to keep hold of a disc post-subscription. The answer is 'no', but not for the reasons you thought.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but your analogy really wasn't that clever and you're just embarrassing yourself by continuing to bang on at it.

Try explaining better then , and not editing and deleting all the time. Reading your post history it would appear youve never been wrong or at least you believe you've never so well done. :o:

Mm hmm.

The other thing you can't do, apart from putting the team on ignore, is make up stories about editing and deleting posts. I can see exactly what you have previously written and exactly when you deleted it.

I suggest you move along with the topic and stop trying to pick fights.
