ive read somewhere Tesco is also gonna start offering shoppers free wifi which made me laff with all the apps for mobiles out there that allows u to scan barcodes and see if u can get things cheaper elsewhere which will in my opinion will entice more people to use the apps if they dont have to use their own WAP bandwith which they maybe limited on.

It remembers every wireless network it has ever joined, if you have that option checked in System Preferences. I've just looked and found networks there that it's not been near for 3 or 4 years. It is remembering the network name and security type, don't know what else.

Incidentally, it's Mac, after the Scottish surname, not MAC, after Media Access Control. ;)

As Chris has already answered this question I'll just add the screenshot I was going to use to illustrate the point.

Yes, Windows does that to. But what is seemingly being suggested it that it remembers the IP information to, and that if you have static ip set for one wireless network then you don't need to change this if connecting to another.

I answered it more quickly because I decided I couldn't be bothered to photoshop the network names off a screencap. :D

I don't see where that's being suggested.

The fact that people are laughing that the windows instructions are longer than the MAC instructions because they contain information on ensuring the adapter is set to DHCP seems to suggest that MAC users have no need to do this

Exactly, the windows instructions are longer because they're the absolute worst case if your network is currently set up to not use dhcp, whereas the mac ones assume that you're using dhcp so just connect.
If you're using dhcp already on windows it's just a right click, connect to network.
