You are very quickly using up our patience by the very many REPEAT threads you keep posting about your speed issues instead of POLITELY keeping them to one thread. So how about IF you must rant everyday here about your speed issue that you post ONLY in this thread because you will find any further duplicates will be merged with this one. |

Re: Why has my service gone poop since monday?
could someone with technical knowledge (probably ignition (lol)) please let me know about this: when my connection was installed, it was put into the street cabinet through a splitter like this one:
http://fl1.shopmania.org/files/photo...y~11413432.jpg Could this be why my service seems like its over utilised, because I am sharing a tap with another user, directly contending the service? for example if they are downloading something, it will slow my connection? and if so, will I be able to get it fixed? i know that offshore wont have a clue what a street cabinet is, but will i be able to report this properly to a tech support agent? |
Re: Why has my service gone poop since monday?
no that would not have any effect on your connection.
|
Re: Why has my service gone poop since monday?
if taps have no affect then why do they have operations every so often to remove them?

Re: Why has my service gone poop since monday?
The only effect would be on power levels. It's not ideal but so long as power levels are within spec it's a non-issue.
Just remember that you are 'sharing' the signals with everyone else on the coaxial segment you are with anyway. The splitter drops the downstream power about 3.5dBmV and raises upstream transmit power about 3.5dBmV. So long as the splitter is working properly there will be no impact on SNR or anything else, as any interference from the other home on the splitter would munt you anyway. The RF network is very, very basic. It delivers radio frequency at a certain power, that's all it does. It can cause problems only through the RF power being off or the quality of the RF signal being unacceptable, that's about all. There is actually absolutely no intelligence on the network at all until you get to a hub site. |
Re: Why has my service gone poop since monday?
fair enough, thanks for explanation.

Re: Why has my service gone poop since monday?
It would be no different to having a splitter in your home.

---------- Post added at 22:08 ---------- Previous post was at 22:06 ---------- i was just interested as to whether i was effectively sharing my connection with someone by using the same tap, at least it would be a reason for the drops in speed and spikes in ping. I have been in contact with the CEO office so hopefully ill get somewhere, thanks for clearing this up ignition btw ;) |
Re: Why has my service gone poop since monday?
I've had a splitter in my home with two 50MB connections coming off it and full speeds on both. So a splitter in the cab wouldn't have any effect either.
