It makes no difference if she was doing anything with these people or not before she was attacked .The attack served to change her perspective on life and make her a less selfish person (not suggesting she was before),that is what happens to people when tragedies occur to them ,that is how most of the charities and foundations are started .Sir Bobby Robson started a cancer foundation shortly before he died ,was he selfish ,he got a lot of press and tv coverage through it

I have done the math, and already answered your question..

She may have been trying to highlight their plight before her attack, but we wouldn't have heard about it because she would have been just one more charity campaigner (a pretty one, admittedly) but the media would have been no more interested in her than they are the millions of other charity workers.

So, while I wouldn't necessarily say your posts here make you look narrow minded (your posts elsewhere do, but that's beside the point), you do look cynical.

Besides, as noted above, she doesn't need to have been doing this work before she was injured. As long as she is doing it now.

So, according to Pete's logic, any of the disabled soldiers who do publicity/fundraising work for Help for Heroes are only in it for the money?

So, the fact that she didn't get the injuries fighting for her country means that it's somehow bad for her to help others?

How do you feel about (say) rape victims who go on to counsel others?

Well, in that case, let me repeat and then paraphrase your initial post...

I'm interested in how you reconcile this.....

You are a sad and deluded man who cannot see beyond your own little world.

I can say that it is narrow minded as you would see things differently as if you grew up the same as me:
1- Having regimented hearing tests at school and then becoming deaf in one ear. ( Also having a deaf friend at school )
2- Also having a best friend who went to a specialist school due to his disabilty.
3- Also having a nephew who at the age of 6 was in a house fire and suffered 95% burns on the whole body ( losing fingers and toes on one side of his body )
4- Then also have a child with AUTISM.

It will make you see the world in a different light and also make you feel that the life that you have got is good ( not really as you seem to take care of all the others and think that your life is meaningless in comparison to the others out there )

Rant Over!

The thing is that we (as a people) do often underestimate the problems faced by others.

For instance, a family member was wheelchair bound for a while as a result of an operation. Until that point, I thought that we (as a country) were quite well equipped for wheelchair users. I now know that (at the time at least, the situation has improved thanks to the Disability Discrimination Act) we were terribly equipped.
