Re: PC keeps restarting
You could try using msconfig to disable skype from starting up at boot time. That may allow you to run in normal mode for long enough to uninstall the program.

Re: PC keeps restarting
Unfortunately it still will not unistall as the windows installer is not started. I think my attempts of system restore and startup recovery stopped the events log working and windows installer.
I found a thread about "clean boot" where you stop all 3rd party apps/services and so I can now boot up in normal mode but I still cannot access and start the event log service and my wifi is not connection. I'm trying this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...-52f3ddc4fbd9/ ---------- Post added at 19:30 ---------- Previous post was at 19:27 ---------- When I try uninstall skype my machine restarts ---------- Post added at 19:41 ---------- Previous post was at 19:30 ---------- I'm following this https://support.skype.com/en-gb/faq/...einstall-Skype method to uninstall but when I run appwiz.cpl (ie add/remove programs) I cannot uninstall skype from here as my machine restarts. |
Re: PC keeps restarting
perhaps using the live disk delete all skypes files. What about if you try a reinstall of skype?
|
Re: PC keeps restarting
Do I have to run the add/remove programs? If not I could just delete the folder and clear the registry which skypes support link suggests

Re: PC keeps restarting
With this being a self-build machine, do you have a pukka windows 7 dvd available to use for repair work?
I mean a proper Microsoft dvd rather than branded restore rubbish. |
Re: PC keeps restarting
I do have an original (GOLD PLATED....while gold in colour) Win 7 Home Prem OEM edition DVD....no other branded rubbish. Repair how? will it clear all my programs/data? It is defiantely skype thats caused the issue.

Re: PC keeps restarting
It's possible to do a repair install from within Windows which should keep all your installed stuff but fix the damage to services etc.
Have a read here and see if you want to risk it. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...r-install.html |
Re: PC keeps restarting
Sounds pretty low risk. I think I'll leave it for the morning when I'm more alert.

Re: PC keeps restarting
:)I'm dying to check up on this thread and see the words "wahay........ it's fixed and the problem was this... and the solution was this.....
here's me crossing my fingers for you. I don't suppose it matters but... ccleaner does an uninstall?? not sure if it would help in your case:erm: |
Re: PC keeps restarting
strange I got the DVD stuck it in and all it shows me is two files. A readme.txt which says that this disc contains a udf file systm and requires an operating system that support ISO-13346 "udf" file system specification" and a desktop.ini which is marked as files to be written to disc
I stuck it into one of my work laptop and it found all the files. any ideas? |
Re: PC keeps restarting
well I did say that cdrbsdrv.SYS from post #7 was something to do with your burning software or your dvd burner??

Re: PC keeps restarting
A complete reinstall would've saved you lots of time... When you finally get it sorted, the first thing you should do after installing all your drivers and software is an image backup to DVD and a secondary drive. ;)

Re: PC keeps restarting
Noticed you installed the Asus software suit, your not using the A i booster are you? thats the first thing you need to dump as it causes many problems.
You say you haven't installed any new software but dont forget Windows update will throw all sorts of patches and updates at your system. Try creating a new user account (not with administrator rights) and see if Windows runs stable, if it remains stable then its a driver/software conflict (basic users dont have access to all the admins software and as a result it could well mean the driver with the problem wont load in the first place). Next thing to do is update your graphics driver, these always cause problems so go to somewhere like Guru3D.com and grab the latest for your card, once you have done that run a driver cleaner (there are loads of free ones around) this will wipe old un needed drivers, you can also get software that will grab updates for your existing ones but i prefer to do that manualy myself. Also be aware that there are Virus's that typically cause reboots and crashes so make sure your anti virus/ spyware is up to date. |
