Bit of a pointless thread lol.

None of us get 50mb 24 hours a day. The speed will vary all the time between 20-50mbps and because we dont do a speedtest every second of the day its impossible to say we get 50mbps 24/7

Take for example 'Thyroid Help' His speedtest showed he was 20mbps+ off, Cant really say he is not getting 50mb's download because 1) 'Up to 50Mb Speeds' 2) If he retook it later on the chances are it would have shown 48-50mbps.

You could do one test and get 51.07mbps and do a second 3 minutes later and get 28mbps... Nevertheless we are on 50mb and unless there is an issue we get the speed advertised.

Bit of an inanane comment. I have net meter running on my PC which will tell me what my speed is in real time.

I don't need to continually run speed tests, it shows me what it is.

Mind you only because I'm either uploading or downloading but at least I know my connection is rock solid!

Indeed and as you have 'silently' pointed out. I havent took background apps into consideration such as playing an Internet based game or Downloading a movie or whatever it is you play with nowadays.

But Im seeing a lot of 50's in ratio to those who claim they dont get near 50mbps. Which in my opinion completely throws the whole Virgin are crap they dont give us 50mb speeds rant out of the window for trolls.

Yes throw it out. Just look at the poll results. VM do supply 50Mb to the satisfaction of the majority.

Yes there are some customers that have problems but which ISP can state they don't have any?

Don't forget forums like this are mainly for people with problems seeking help which is a drop in the ocean compared to the ISP's customer base which equates to

a) The majority of the vast amount of customers are happy

b) The minority who have encountered problems are more vocal.

c) a+b=clueless customers.

Read it as you will, I will discount c) immediately although admitting there are a lot of customers who are clueless and just use their connection for browsing and emails.(who needs more than 10Mb?)

There are also (a rising tide) of gamers, webmasters etc who know what the connection should be like and even there the majority are happy.

All ISP's will have problems, some sort them out quicker and easier than others. IMO VM lets itself down with their CS services offshore. If you are lucky enough to get through to UK based CS problems seem to be sorted out quicker.

In general VM provide a very good service compared to other ISP's.

No doubt there will be others who disagree.

And the people that disagree tend to be the same people that do not recieve 50mb because they have an issue that they wont ring up or try to resolve, they come to a forum like this and moan on and try to ruin the reputation of quite frankly an excellent product.

Well said. I had 50mb for around 12months, couldn't honestly see a difference when browsing, downloading was different but at the end of the day, we just downgraded to 20mb for convience if anything.

50Mb is a stellar product, the best in the UK, we just never took advantage of it really and dropped it in the end.

My average is 50.67Mb. Never had any problems or outages.

If we had 10:1 download/upload then the product would be perfect. Bring it on.

If its a pointless thread then why post, the fact this thread has already helped a number of people test there speeds and allow them to raise issues with VM - A simply solution of rebooting your moden can solve some if not most issues, but alot of us are not techy and these threads help people quickly.

I also had a problem with my upload through modem..had engineer and sorted wired connection..but modem still was slower. Solved by just resetting to default settings, the reset button which can only be pressed with a pen. Thank god I don't just write with pencil :D

If that's on a wired connection it needs seeing to. Open a new thread and post your up/down stats and log file for more advice.
