Fixed itself. There would have been a lot of squeaky bums in Sony HQ waiting for it to click over to midnight so they could see if it fixed itself.

Sony has said that a millennium-style bug that prevented thousands of PlayStation 3 owners from using its online games network has been resolved.
The firm said that the fault had been caused by machines that had "recognised the year 2010 as a leap year".

Sony not fixed it regardless what they said its merely moved from the error problem date.

As Sony admitted the Fat Ps3's have an errored internal syc clock which has been programmed to take a leap year every even year. Sony admitted 20 million consoles is effected.

It did not happen in 2006 because ps3 did not launch until november usa region. PAL launched much later mar 2007.

in 2008 we had a leap year so it correctly passed it.

2010 we got an error because it assumed march the first was 29 feb it dont exist so Ps3 went down like the titanic.

Simply waiting till error date passes is not a good thing although it may correct itself we may have hidden issues. One is the internal sync clock maybe now looking a day late.

What happens in 2014 we face another even year which is not a leap year. Sony may not be in position to be able to flash errored code if its only write once chip as to stop pirates flashing. Using firmware to fool it may not work or be a good solution. As they use the internal Sync clock as part of its protection they actually may hinder them rectifing it.

However although cant find it there was talk SONY my take a hit and upgrade all fats to slim but realistically thats going to be rather costly. Questions will be raised if a class a action suit is impending as the fault still there and the only way is mass recall to take out faulty rom chip.

I'm sure they'll work it into the next update - which will likely be quite soon anyway
