Thats my point! People can say it how it is.

But we can't. because the fat woman will take offence because she's been told she can.
when she's not out looking to be offended. she's at home telling her self she's not fat, just big boned.

Well, you can tell it's Christmas, can't you? This is probably someone who mentioned out of hand, perhaps even joked about it to someone, that shouting, "two fat ladis," might embarrass the two fat ladies at the front. It then got incorrectly translated by someone else and made its way to the local newspaper, where it was picked up by a bored researcher at the BBC. It will be probably go down with the rest of the Christmas urban myths, such as Winterval and banning Christmas etc.

And the point of your post is what exactly? The first version says 'A council spokeswoman' and the second says 'A town council spokeswoman'. Big difference. I suppose the change was made to differentiate between the town council and the county council.

Yep you got it.

The meat of the story however has not changed and i see no sudden retractions to say someone got it wrong. Every now and then some council jobsworth will take offence to something and you end up with it becoming a statement of fact. This is i feel one of those cases were it will all be forgotten and taken as a big joke. The fundamental problem is that some jumped up council worker can change the rules just like that. I just wish that councils could react as quick about the real problems we have instead of taking the easy options and banning things we don't give a fly whatsit about.

The locus classicus of the genre is the story that Birmingham City Council renamed Christmas "Winterval". There is a little bit of truth at the heart of it; the council did indeed run a promotional campaign called Winterval - for a couple of years in the late Nineties - which was designed to attract business to the city centre. But in all other respects civic Birmingham continued to celebrate Christmas in the usual way - with lights in the streets and trees in the squares. The Guardian ran a piece trying to debunk the myths about Christmas in our PC world in December 2006, and when the paper's reporter telephoned Birmingham Council he reported meeting "a silence that might seasonably be described as frosty". A weary council spokesman told him: "We get this every year... It just depends how many rogue journalists you get in any given year. We tell them it is b------s, but it doesn't seem to make any difference."

Winterval was named so as not to offend Muslims. just like everything else is changed so as not to offend.

The change is being made because city council officials hope to create a more multi-cultural atmosphere in keeping with the city's mix of ethnic groups.
