Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Yes, do you have 2 ethernet cables? You can't make it work if you don't.
You need one from the modem to the router and another one to go from the router to the computer. |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
ok i tryed it but nothing
the port numbers on router wont light up and the one that is disabled when i enable it, it says network cable unplugged Yeah i Got 2 Ethernets ---------- Post added at 22:08 ---------- Previous post was at 22:07 ---------- I got 2 RJ45 cables and the one that came with the router |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Is it still enabled?
Have you switched back to USB? If so, keep that on and connect the ethernet cable from the router to your computer then go to network connections, does it still say network cable unplugged? |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
the modem to the computer?
|
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Try each port on the router then try the other ethernet cable.
It would be unusual for 2 cables to fail. Does it still say disabled? |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
so plug 1 ethernet into modem to router?
and try all ports with the computer? |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
No, you only have one port on the computer. Leave the ethernet cable in there and put the other end in every port on the router. Still no 1 2 3 or number 4 light, try the same thing again with the other ethernet cable.

Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
No lights still coming on
|
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Ok, connect one end of the ethernet cable to the modem and the other end to the computer. It won't give you an IP address because you have the USB in but we just want to see if the computer sees the ethernet connection, have Network connection open when you do this so you can see if the network cable unplugged message changes.

Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
Its not seeing it and the message doesnt change =(
tried it with all 3 ethernets |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
You tried both ethernet cables?
If so you have 3 options 1. I've actually seen this work, go to Start > Run > type cmd press ok, this opens a black window, type netsh winsock reset press enter, you should get a message saying 'successfully reset the winsock catalog you need to restart the machine, close everything and restart the computer. 2. Uninstall and reinstall the Network card. 3. Replace the Network card. |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
which one is safest
|
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
As long as you only type what I put in bold it's prefectly safe.
I wouldn't recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the Network card incase you don't have the driver to put back on. Although if you check for Windows Updates it might give you a driver for it. Replacing the network card is possibly a waste of money until you've tried the other 2. |
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
do i put it as netshwinsock reset?
|
Re: Linksys Router and NTL 250 MODEM
netsh winsock reset
