Well it has been where I've been covering history...

Tojo was Stalin's little dog. Stalin used to carry him around in a little basket lined with red gingham. I read that on the internet, so it must be true! ;)

Hey Kay, is that squirrel drinking Nutscafe?

You have taken the words right out of my mouth danielf, for anyone over the age of 18 to ask that question fits your criteria perfectly.

I am pleased to hear that, as I said it wasn't really that long ago I was at school and those events weren't mentioned at all, some one earlier said if we don't learn from history we are bound to repeat it, well that's for sure if you don't even learn the history in the first place

Agreed it's not covered as extensively as the holocaust is more a sort of background info leading up to the Japs declaring war on the US.Stalin's purges are mentioned but again only in passing as a sort of background info on communism before leading onto the Korean war.

The trouble with teaching the history of the 20thC is that there is sooo much documentation and photographs that covering it all is very difficult.Teaching about two world wars seems to take up most of the time.

However the sort of history I would like covered has so little info available that it's just not covered.I'd rather know more about the bronze age and the people who built Stonehenge.Pre-Roman history is barely touched on..:(

My daughter and all of her friends have absolutely no knowledge of anything historical whatsoever. I would prefer teaching on the holocaust to cover all the victims of the nazi's not just one group as that wasn't the only group the nazi's wanted to exterminate completely. As a general point it is a period in history which i think all generations must be educated about so that it can never happen again. That education is even more important in a time when everything comes down to appearence rather then substance.

I don`t think that there is any Muslim bashing going on, but i do really think that people are more wary of Muslims because of the way some of them act on their beliefs, same as some cristians act on their own beliefs.:(

Yer what? Remind me of the last few years' Daily Express front pages, if you'd be so kind.

No danger of that as long as we keep strong laws in place on freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and right to life. Traditional British freedoms, in fact, which are the best antidote to fascism yet found, which is why Churchill was so keen to export them round the world.

Extremely good point - there's a strong case for saying WW2 in general is covered wrong, since we concentrate mostly on things that affected the UK (or indeed the south-eastern UK), like the Battle of Britain. The forces engaged on either side in that battle were minute compared to things like Stalingrad or Kursk or Okinawa or Burma, but those are things we only learn about because we're interested rather than because we're taught. Or from Commando comics, of course, which I thoroughly recommend.

There's also the English Civil War, which is by many definitions far more important in English history than WW2. More dead, for a start, as a proportion of population, and the consequences have been felt everywhere in England every day for 350 years.

"Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it", or something similar. And since we began teaching about the Holocaust, there has not been a single occurrence of genocide. Well, apart from Rwanda. And Bosnia. Oh and Darfur. There's a short article here on the subject.

"Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it - and not know it. Those who remember history are doomed to repeat it - and know full well but hey, we are human"

Should the thread title be editted (not just because it currently doesn't make much sense) in light of this being an invented anti-muslim story by some sections of the media?

Re: removed The Holocaust from the school curriculum

If you care to read what is posted on the BBC web site it will confirm the fact about Muslim teaching that the Holocaust did not take place.

Iran has stated the Holocaust did not happen and is just Zionist propaganda.

The BBC Web site: Link

One other point. While many more Russian people were killed during the II World War than Jewish People in the holocaust, but we remember and talk about the Holocaust more in school history lessons.

This because one Mad man with a nation behind him tried to remove a race of people from the face of this planet. This included anybody who had a Jewish grandmother would be sent to the death camps for the final solution.

This being said I do think we have a problem in that If a Muslim child is asked a question in a school exam about the Holocaust.

So I return to my original question: Is it time to move on or should our children be told the truth as part of our worlds history at school???

Please note I said our children which also includes Muslim Children.

Edit Rob: I know it's only a small part of the post, but please only use English Language on this forum

No to the former and yes to the second.

However I'm starting to get annoyed by your persistence in asking the question because it sounds like you aren't getting the answer you wanted and thus I'm starting to question your motives in posing the question. :(

From your link:

Quote:

The report gave as an example a history department in "a northern city" which "recently avoided selecting the Holocaust as a topic for GCSE coursework for fear of confronting anti-Semitic sentiment and Holocaust denial among some Muslim pupils".
How is that teaching that it didn't take place? If it's not a topic then surely they're not staying anything either way?
