I don't think you can compare what Man United have done in the past to this. There's declaring an intrest in a player and there's what Madrid are doing, which are very different things.

So Madrid are just expressing an intrest in the player then?? Yeah right, giving him an Audi as a gift and every day putting in their paper that he's defiantely coming and saying he's putting himself on the transfer list etc. Give me some examples of any other club doing the same thing or something similar?

Like I said earlier, a club 'expressing' an interest in a player contracted at another club can have just as an unsettling effect. Anyway from what I've heard from Utd fans, Ronaldo doesnt want to go anywhere.

But if he did leave to play at Madrid, would you blame Real for unsettling him or would you see Ronaldo for what he truly was (if he did move that is) - a money grabbing, I dont care about Utd, Im just off for more money, type of player.

I don't think so, rules are rules, it don't matter how you break them, it's the fact their broken that matters, even if he leaves nothing will be done, do Madrid and they'd have to do every other club in Europe as well, whats the point, get rid of any of them that thinks the grass is greener, no one is bigger than any club, even the lowliest Unibond team will probably still be there long after we are all dead and buried and Ronaldo is no more than an image on screen

To be honest i don't mind a club expressing an intrest in a player, i think thats acceptable, but what Madrid are doing is not.

I expect Ronaldo to leave, not now though, at the end of next season or the one after that probably. Madrid is a club he's always supported and wanted to play for so i understand why he wants to move there. I don't think he is the money grabbing type of player, i think he deserves the money he gets.

I don't agree with how Madrid are trying to get him to join sooner rather than later, the way they use the Marca newspaper to release comments is unacceptable and shouldn't be allowed. They surely know he will one day move there, there is no need to try and unsettle him and get on bad terms with the club they will have to buy him from.

Maybe in your opinion declaring an intrest in a player is breaking the rules, it isn't for me. Madrid have gone beyond declaring an intrest in a way i can't remember any other club doing. If declaring an intrest is breaking the rules than every club would be guilty so you can't really say what goes around comes around for United.

Not in my opinion, it's the laws of the games opinion and I can say what goes around comes around because it's not normally United players being unsettled by under hand tactics and press releases but United doing the unsettling, how many times did Spurs and Munich say Carrick and Hargreaves weren't for sale?

I think the point is that all clubs are guilty of unsettling a player when they express an interest in them. Clubs shouldn't approach players contracted to another club period if they want to be innocent of unsettling them.

Are you saying its ok to unsettle players and clubs doing things one way, but not another?

But according to some thats ok, because Utd didnt give either of these players cars as gifts, or misquote/quote that they are unsure of what their future is and cant commit to it, on Man Utd TV.

What i'm saying is that a club saying 'we would be intrested in signing Mr.xxxx' is not a problem for me personally, maybe it's against the rules or whatever, but i think thats ok and wouldn't really unsettle a player. Maybe it does unsettle a player and i'm wrong but it's just the way i feel about it. What Madrid are doing is something else though, they are continuously, through their newspaper, making up stories about a player and in a way forcing a player to join their club. Things like giving a player who doesn't play for them but want to sign them a car as a gift are unacceptable in my opinion. I don't think anyone can accuse United or any other club of using the tactics Madrid have been using in the past few weeks.

They don't have to be the same tactics to be illegal, the effect is quite the same, players leave, against their clubs wishes and I love the way you and Fergie keep calling Marca their newspaper, they aren't, they are independent, in the same way the Manchester evening news is independent

Oh come on, if its not a problem for you personally but still against the rules then its ok? Most player receiving an interest from a massive club would start feelign unsettled, or at least tempted to tear up his existing contract. And as for Madrid giving Ronaldo a car (I dont know if this is true or not), Carrick must have been rubbing his hands when thinking of the bif fat signing on bonus he was going to receive when Utd said they wanted him. It's all the same, however the business is conducted.

Oh come on, everyone knows it's their newspaper, it always has been and always will be. They use it to make comments under a different name so they cannot be directly blammed for what they say or do.

Maybe it is, i never said i agree with how United do business, but my point is that i believe Madrid have taken it a step further which is what i disagree with, like when Chelsea met with Ashley Cole when he was at Arsenal. I honestly wouldn't be bothered if Madrid just declared an intrest in Ronaldo, which to my knowledge is all that United have done with players they want to buy, you two may feel it's the same thing as what they are doing now, but i don't, i think theres a difference which is what my point is. I know he's going to leave the club, whether it be now or in a couple of years, i just disagree with the way Madrid are doing their business, if United did the same thing then i would disagree the same, it's not a case of being bias, you may not believe me when i say that but it is the way i would feel.

You do know that it's a national paper don't you and btw they carry just as much about Athletico as they do Real, in fact the only team they don't cover is Barcalona. The only difference between what they are doing and every one else is that they have to phone one jurno to leak the story, unlike our lot that phone all the tabloids with 'exclusives'
