That is a bummer. :(

Nevermind it's perhaps just a matter of time before it's rolled out. :)

Do I really HAVE to be a BT phone customer to get broadband from anywhere else but VM? I don't want to go back to BT as a phone customer - is it the only option?

Yes, unless you choose satellite broadband.

No you can use one of the LLU providers if you wish and take a fully unbundled service Or you could have a BT line but use one of the other calling providers via CPS

But the copper is still from BT so if your copper is crap that's your lot.

Well, step 1 faltered slightly when BT didn't turn up yesterday....
Number couldn't be ported so they cancelled the installation without telling me. Hour on the phone and finally got BT to sort out another date. Been given my number though, so will try to book Be before the BT line is installed, as Virgin disco and collection of equipment is on 25th. May have a couple of days downtime I think. Hey ho......

Re: bethere.co.uk?

Can anyone help with some info for me ...................... VM has gone slow and slower.....i have given them chances after chances, but i cannot take i anymore. I have spent hours upon hours with tech help (i did get my money back)then to customer services, the list is so long i dont want to bore you with it, I have a contract with them now i am on and have been on the highest connection since i could get cable. I have now a lifetime contract i pay for 2mb connection but get the 20mb one.
But having said all this i still am not happy.......I have checked that my exchange has adsl max and "be" is enabled could someone tell me (i am 0.8km away) does this mean i should get around 18mb adsl ? and if anyone on Be could confirm this as i am unsure as VM told me all i would get is 8mb and this would give me 6mb

Re: bethere.co.uk?

I am currently going through exactly the same as you and am in the process of getting Be in via a BT line. I am also 0.87 km from the exchange so as soon as I am sorted out I will let you know.
Way i view it is that it could not be any worse than VM so any stability and speed that I gain from a flaky (20meg) 1 meg speed is going to be a bonus. I should have a better idea in the next couple of weeks.

As far as it goes, that is probably right, VM don't include LLU ISPs when talking about ADSL based ISPs, and, for their off-net connections, they use standard ADSL (which is limited to around 8 meg theoretically, and 6.5 meg actually). Also, bear in mind, they are trying to persuade you to stay with Cable, so they might underrepresent the speed of ADSL.

If you are that near to the exchange, you should certainly get more than 10 meg from Be, and I'd be surprised if you didn't get at least 18.
